People say I'm the life of the party cause
I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughin' loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You see my smile looks out of place
As you get closer it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
Since you left me, if you see me with another girl
Seeming like I'm having fun
Although she may be cute
She's just a substitute
Cause you're the perfect one
So take a good look at my face
You see my smile looks out of place
As you get closer it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
I need you (x7)
Need you (x6)
Cupid, draw back your bow
And let your arrow go
Straight to my lover's heart
For me
Nobody but me
Cupid, please hear my cry
And let your arrow fly
Straight to my lover's heart
For me

As a fan of music I have a hard time when anybody redoes a song. Let's be honest most songs that are redone fall short of what the original artist intended i.e. Madonna's American Pie, however I'm happy to say that Gavin Degraw's renditions set the bar. From the first note out of Mr. Degraw's mouth you are drawn in, and when you listen to him sing the words that Smoky made timeless you can feel the covered angst; yet can't help but sing along. For me the best is hearing it put together with Sam Cooke's "Cupid", because when you've lost you're lover, all you want is for "love" to draw you back together. Mr. Degraw has a keen sense of what the music is about, and doesn't try to change it, he adds a little bit of soul, and quite possibly personal experience to make these classics his own.
