Tomorrow, Wendy Lyrics - Concrete Blonde

Review The Song (11)

It is complete now the two ends of time are neatly tied.
A one-way street, she's walking to the end of the line.
And there she meets the faces she keeps in her heart and mind.

They say 'good bye' Tomorrow, Wendy, you're going to die.
They say 'good bye' Tomorrow, Wendy, you're going to die.

Underneath the chilly gray November sky
We can make believe that Kennedy is still alive and
We're shooting for the moon and smiling Jackie's driving by and

They say 'good try'
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.

I told the priest, don't count on any second coming.
God got his ass kicked the first time he came down here slumming.
He had the balls to come, the gall to die and then forgive us.
No, I don't wonder why, I wonder what he thought it would get us.
Hey, hey, good bye.

Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.

Hey, hey, good bye.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.

Hey, hey, good bye.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die.

Only God says jump,
So I set the time
'Cause if he ever saw her
It was through these eyes of mine!
And if he ever suffered it was me who did his crying.

Hey hey, good bye.
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die
(Tomorrow Wendy's going to die)
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die
(Tomorrow Wendy's going to die)
Tomorrow Wendy'd going to die

Hey, hey, good bye
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die

Hey, hey, good bye
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die
Tomorrow Wendy's going to die
Tomorrow Wendys going to die

still a tear jerker | Reviewer: allen | 3/7/11

The song still makes me cry a little after all these years, friends I've lost from a life I used to live growing up in long beach,ca somehow I'm still alive, I used to party hard, some friends I had lost to aids, some hiv, some to some hepatitis, some just flat out disappeared, and some of them had aids or hiv choose to take themselves out rather than fight I will never begrudge or never did I judge them for their choice, somehow I lived through it healthy, and I've always wondered if they where the lucky ones

this song came out when i was in college, i never thought about it, in my 20's i lost a few friends from aids and other bad things, from our partying days and now at the age of 38 i still cry in my heart from all my friends who left too soon, and even a few from suicide because they where hiv positive, and somehow i made it and wonder if they where the lucky ones

johnette has this voice that, even when the song is more upbeat still carries this depth and pain like no other. "tomorrow, wendy", though written by a. prieboy, no other singer could make it as heart-wrenching. In Carry Me Away", the memory and lonliness of a failed relationship is so apparent that it brings those emotions out of the listener as well.

Overwhelming songwwritting and Johnette delivers the emotional message | Reviewer: Aleleeinn | 2/24/10

According to some comments from Johnette, Wendy had no support watsoever. No family society or friends. So she decided not to face a long slow painful death from aids. She went home looked in the irror and shot herself in the head.
The pain, hurt and anger that comes through in htis song when Johnette sings it on the Live in Brazil CD is overwhelming.
The comments about God are related directly to the pain and suffering. "I wonder wht He thought it wiuld get us?", I think referes to the fact that human suffering continues without end. That is the universal in the song. The Kennedy reference is an example of the sufering of a nation. And the verse states that "we can pretend that Kennedy is still alive." But the chorus smashes the illusion with "They say, GOOD TRY!, Tomorrow Wnedy's going to die."
I was also impressed with how many people in the audience in Brazil knew the song and sang verses and choruses.

The Meaning of "Tomorrow Wendy" | Reviewer: sk0tt | 9/25/09

I read somewhere that it was written by Andy Prieboy (formerly of Wall of Voodoo) about a woman who had been diagnosed with AIDS. A beautifully written story if that is the case.

(Wikipedia confirms: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Prieboy )

tomorrow wendy | Reviewer: jane weir | 6/21/09

I heard somewhere that this songs lyrics referred to an act of euthanasia - Origin early 17th century in the sense [easy death] from the greek eu 'well' + thanatos 'death'. It makes sense with the lyrics 'Only God says jump, So I set the time' thats how they know that it is tomorrow that Wendy is going to die. Beautiful gutsy song though in every sense.

Peter left Wendy hanging | Reviewer: momule | 8/23/07

And yes, our country has never been the same since JFK, Bobbie, and Martin were put down. What happened to the dream? Now we just force our will on others. Wendy is still alive and well....we just need to wake up and embrace her. What a wonderful song....
