You just got to see the art in the whole thing. Its like writing a poem about changing seasons from summer to fall and coloring it "summer colors"on one end and have it develop into fall colors. The whole song - music and lyrics work together with the message of be real and not plastic.

Accost:
1.to approach, especially with a greeting, question, or remark
2.to approach, stop, and speak to (a person), as to ask a question, accuse of a crime, solicit, etc
Yes it also can mean to solicit sexual favors but obviously thats not what is being implied in the song!

I think Li had it right on the mark. Todd Agnew is a great musician, and the 'imperfections' that some people are critiquing seem to be done to drive the focus on the heart of the song...Jesus is not the image on a postcard or even in some well-meaning churches.

How many of you have ever seen a homeless person at an intersection and quickly locked your car door, or looked away from someone stuck on the side of the road in a car without stopping, hoping someone else would? God forgive me, but I know I have. This song speaks to me and convicts me like no other song that I can think of.

This song has a wonderful conviction. That is the point of the song. It is a harsh song because of the lyrics but it is only the truth. Christianity isn't sugar coated, there is truth. If every song was "sugar coated" the truth would not be revealed. Like the songs says, I want to be like my Jesus! Great song and lyrics!

I think the message of this song is, at the least, marginally legitimate. But there is no way that this can be considered a good piece of music. It's just a cluster of ideas sung to some inconsistent rhythm and obscurely definable melody. How did this make it to radio stations? I agree with the message, but it's a painful piece of music for which to listen.

My mother always listens to christian radio and i have to admit that i don't prefer many of the songs that they play. But once i heard this song, i immediately realized it was more 'negative' than most. The tone is very emotionaly and almost angry, which seperated this song from most other praise and worship songs. 'My Jesus will never be accepted in my church, the blood and dirt on his feet might stain the carpet' is the kind of ironic sarcastic tone that draws me to this song. Todd Agnew goes far enough to say that he 'spent his time with thieves, and sluts, and liars'. I think it's great that Todd Agnew finally captured the real Jesus that most people don't know.

It's true that we as Christians are supposed to be putting Christ on display for the world to see Him through our lives. So often though we go through our daily routines looking just like the world around us. I am ALWAYS deeply moved by this song because it causes me to look at my own life and ask myself the question,"Why do I look so much like the world?". This song is among my very favorites simply because it steps on my toes and helps me to actually grow.
