Against Me! Thrash Unreal Lyrics

Last updated: 06/07/2013 01:10:13 PM

If she wants to dance and drink all night well there’s no one that can stop her.
She’s going til the house lights come up or her stomach spills onto the floor.
This night is gunna to end when we’re damn well ready for it to be over.
Worked all week long now the music is playing on our time.
Yeah we do what we do to get by, and then we need a release.

Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada
Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada
Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada

You get mixed up with the wrong guys.
You get messed up on the wrong drugs.
Sometimes the party takes you places that you didn’t really plan on going.
When people see the track marks on her arms she knows what they’re thinking.
She keeps on working for that minimum,
as if a high school education gave you any other options, you know.
They don’t know nothing about redemption.
They don’t know nothing about recovery.
Some people just aren't the type for marriage and family.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie.(Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada)
No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to sleep alone.(Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada)
No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie.(Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada)
No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to sleep alone.(Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada)

She’s out of step with the style.
She don’t know where the actions happening.
You know the downtown club scene ain't nothing like it used to be.
You reach a point where there’s not a lie in the world
that you could use to make the boys believe your still in you twenties.
But they keep getting younger,
Don't they baby.
She’s not waiting for someone to come over and ask for the privilege.
She can still hear that Rebel Yell just as loud as it was in 1983.
There ain't no Johnny coming home to share a bed with her and she doesn’t care.

No mother ever dreams that her daughter's going to grow up to be a junkie.(Ba ba ba, Ba ba babadada)

And if she had to live it all over again you know she wouldn’t change anything for the world.

I agree with Jeff, you used to be like "oh they are sellouts. boycott them blah blah" But when you get older, they get older. And sometimes you just can't act like you are 20 when you're 40. You realize the maturity in the music and it's still good :)

Do people even read these titles? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/23/11

SELL-OUTS!!! Just kidding.... Reading the lyrics, the song seems to be about a daughter who is doin drugs and partying which takes over her life and ends up with her sleeping alone shooting up to feel better about herself.... Funny how people can interpret songs like these as fun and inspiring.. Straight-edge 4ever mate. Every1 is entitled to their opinion, im just sharing mine... Against me! Is a ftw band.

all grown up | Reviewer: jeff | 11/17/10

Sell out...funny. I used to be the guy who would call a band a sellout the minute they got signed, followed by "I've been listening to them since...", when you get older you realize how silly that shit is trust me. A great song is a great song period.

Awesome song | Reviewer: MikeD911 | 8/7/10

i gotta say tht i dont really like AM! but they Are DEFINaTLY not sellouts, there a great band and even though i dont like them, their lyrics are really meaningful. furthermore, i give a shoutout to all u ppl tht dislike bands for certain reasons but also give them credit because they are clearly great (if u know what i mean:))

teh shit | Reviewer: Steve | 7/24/10

Just one thing...sure their sound has changed from the days of Reinventing Axl Rose, and i don't think anything's gonna top that, but the power of the lyrics and just the sincerity of their music hasn't changed at all. I was, am, and will always be a fan of AM! By the way, they're like the chillest guys ever, i dunno what about Tom Gabel makes mr. dude below me think he's an asshole.

Anyway...great song.

Masterpiece | Reviewer: mjunior | 7/19/09

Two things: 1. I don't really like Against Me; I've heard some other songs and I don't really care for them. 2. I think Tom Gabel's kind of an asshole, and I don't like him.

But it doesn't matter.

This is the best fucking song of the last 10 years. Even if you don't like the band, you can't tell me with a straight face that Thrash Unreal is anything short of a masterpiece, and if nothing else, I will ALWAYS respect the band for having made one of the greatest rock songs of all time.

It's good and thats all that matters | Reviewer: steviejay | 6/22/09

I have been a AM! fan for a few years but only in that I buy their albums and listen to their music. I didn't follow what label they were under or anything like that. I didn't know anything about them signing to a major label when I listened to new wave. I just thought it was another great album of their's. Who gives a shit what label they're under or how much money they make. I base it entirely on how good the music is and this album is fuckin' good. But, when I do think of them becoming mainstream I just take comfort in knowing that there is alot of people who will hear their new music and want to check out some of their old stuff too.

Sell-outs and the music biz. | Reviewer: Vee | 5/23/09

Being a "sell-out" has nothing to do with getting a record deal with a major company. Being a "sell-out" is when you get on a major label on your first record because you played douchebag music like Panic(!) at the Disco, the Jonas Brothers, etc. The real faggy music that only 12 year old girls listen to (and some older people, but refuse to tell anyone about it). Being in a rock band, is like having a job. You do what you do to make money, and you do the best you can to enjoy yourself. Since, being a musician is doing something you ENJOY, it's kind of hard to NOT make money if you're good enough. So you can't really call a band a sell-out if they strike a record deal with a major label, because that's garbage. That's not something a real fan would say.
And that's all I have to say about that. Anyway, I adore this song. New Wave is one of my all time favorite albums.

Dam Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/15/09

I heard this song on 97.3 The Sound in Cincy. Only place I heard it and I LOVE IT. Sell out, whatever, whoever says that crap is retarded. Unless they start playing new country or pop or change their whole image, they ain't sell outs. It took me days to find this song and band, didn't know them. Tomorrow I'm going to Best Buy, SOB's better have it. Good song, with meaning, great band, rock on.

Okay, morons. | Reviewer: Dayzi | 9/12/08

Honestly, will you people please get a life?
Against Me! are not sellouts.
What the fuck is the definition of sell-out anyway?
They're singing about how society's view of the 'perfect' life should not determine ours.
Think about the music, not the fact that they're mainstream.
You people need to grow the fuck up and stop trying to be such 'alternative' 'indie' asswipes.

amazing song | Reviewer: Keiran | 8/22/08

Fuck off with this "OH THERE SELL OUTS BULLSHIT." They are not sell outs. Just because they have a fan base of more than 500 people and are actually able to pay their bills with their music. Who cares if music is popular? Or punk? Or hardcore? Or whatever fucking genre and label you want to throw on it. Who cares as long as it sounds good. Music isn't about being pretentious, it isn't about being more 'indie' and 'edgy' then the next person, it isn't about whatever genre you want to label it. It's about the sound and what you feel when you hear it. People need to stop being so pretentious and get back to what really matters, the music. The feelings it envokes in you, the fun times you have rocking out like a maniac, the adrenaline you feel freaking out at a show.
On a side note, this is a really good song. I've never been big into Against Me! Until my friend forced me to listen to them, now I'm totally hooked.

Amazing | Reviewer: dust | 8/15/08

that song blew my little stoner mind awsome party song ayone who doesen't like it must be gay best song in like 10 years music is shit now of days and they steped it up way to go againsst me now do a bunch of blow smoke some weed tell your drummer to do some heroine and bam you'll have like 10 or 20 of those songs

Awesome. | Reviewer: Jen | 7/24/08

This song is the epitome independence and living the way you want. All the morons ranting that they've turned pop obviously do not appreciate music, since it's the lyrics and personal additions that make up a song- not the genre.

But anyway, "she doesnt care", and she shouldnt | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/15/08

Against Me aren't even close to sell outs! This song may sound popish but look at the lyrics.. Thats far from pop, they are still the same guys maybe changed a little but you make millions of dollars & tell me you won't change! ;) 6/5 this songs great!

Ah, shut up! I thought it was good! | Reviewer: Terry | 3/11/08

Against Me! should not be considered sellouts for making different music. All great bands go through changes, and it could lead up to something even greater for all you know. They still sound good. If they played the same type of song over and over again I bet you'd complain about that too, right? And don't get so freakin upset they're getting different fans. Gosh, you don't own the band, so everyone is entitled to love em, hate em, or be indifferent. I like this song, whether or not it was everything they were against. For once look at it as an individual piece of work, not one song from the band. Then maybe you could appreciate it.
