This Woman's Work Lyrics - Maxwell

Review The Song (46)

Pray God you can cope.
I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man,
Now his part is over.
Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you´ve got a little life in you yet.
I know you´ve got a lot of strength left.
I know you´ve got a little life in you yet.
I know you´ve got a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That I never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things we should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,
Make it go away.

Give me these moments.
Give them back to me.
Give me that little kiss.
Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it go,
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That were never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things that you wanted from me.
All the things that you needed from me.
All the things that we should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go
Just make it go away now
Just make it go away.

its a beautiful emotionally enhancing song. the appreciation and the love the man expresses about the woman dispells all the myths about insensitivity of man. they can be fragile, needy and babysh.....which is so appealing to us. Hat-off to Maxwell for injecting a soul to these beautiful words. i love it for my husband Lungile Thafeni.

Yes the first part is about her giving birth, but it is also a struggle birth...because the the second section she died in child birth and now he regrets all the things he missed telling her. It is one of the most beautiful songs to women.

beautiful song... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/20/11

My interpretation of this song is about life and not to take it for granted. If you have a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife...tell them you love them and appreciate every moment you have with them.

finally get it | Reviewer: mickey | 4/10/11

This song is brilliantly written. I can tell you that I've heard the song before a million times, and today i finally listened to it.

This song is seperated in to two parts.1st part (including the chorus) is about birth. How that to a man is a greatest gift. We all have mothers. The chorus (chorus after verse 1 if i can put it like that) is a continuation of the 1st part of the 1st verse (pray God you can cope, i'll stand outside) it explains the thoughts that goes through a man's mind whilst a woman is giving birth. (i should be crying but i just can't let it show) i should be strong for you cause i don't know what u go through but i know about your pain. (i should be hoping but i can't stop thinking...) thinking what if you don't make it? How i know this is a two part track is through the second verse. (give me these moments...give them back to me...) 1st verse was written about the past, 2nd verse is about the present. It's about the break up. Like, after all we've been through and you giving me a child, you're are giving up on us like that? Which introduces the second part of the chorus (second chorus of the second verse) is about not giving up on us just like you didn't give up on our child. I'm here for you.

Brilliantly written like poetry. Actually it is poetry. The metaphors and the contrast make this song. If you know poetry very well you'll understand what i mean.

Great | Reviewer: Bre | 9/9/10

This song is amazing! It is one of those songs that never gets old and can be listened to time and time again. I thank Kate Bush for composing the song and Maxwell for renewing it. It does make you think a lot about life and it does make you appreciate it more. It reminds me of my first love and still my love of 5 years. I appreciate him more and more each time i listen to this song.

Respect to both Kate Bush and Maxwell | Reviewer: Marie | 8/22/10

The original artist Kate Bush wrote an excellent song and she sang it beautifully too. However, Maxwell made it appeal to another generation who never heard it before. Maxwell gave maximum credit to Kate Bush for writing the song. Maxwell himself believes if it wasn't for Kate Bush he would not have had the pleasure of singing it. Thanks Kate for writing and singing it. Thanks to Maxwell singing the song and for making The Woman Works appeal to another generation.

amazing song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/14/10

This song makes me think of my best friend and first love that died tragically 3 yrs ago way too young! "Love and Basketball" was a similar story of our relationship except we didn't get a happy ending! This song is amazing and helps me to remember him with so much passion and yet sadness!

Pregnancy | Reviewer: Liz | 2/10/10

This song is about a woman giving birth: the dangers inherent in that act (yes, every time a woman gives birth, there is a risk, slight though it may be, of death), the fact that this is something a man is powerless over. There's not a thing he can do except be there and be supportive - which is saying a lot. But the fact is, it's women's work.

I think for many people [men] the are a lot of realizations that come to when a woman is giving birth.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, though Maxwell sang the hell out of it on the "Love and Basketball" soundtrack he wrote it for no one; it was written and recorded by Kate Bush, the British singer. It was featured on the soundtrack of the American film "She's Having a Baby" (1988 and was released as the second single from her album The Sensual World in 1989.)

Touching Song | Reviewer: Rebecca Mendoza | 12/30/09

I first heard this song on the movie "She's Having a Baby" I was only 8yrs old and I fell in love with it and time flew by I fell in love with my husband and every time we fought this song came into my head and I would sing it at a lonley place where I would go and cry about our fight and now I hear it and I realize how much he means to me and how much I love him I love you Santos T. This song is beautiful | Reviewer: Lex | 12/24/09

I heard this song in "Life Support" , in the part when Omari had aids & died of pneumonia . I think this song is beautiful & makes you appreciate life , which we all take for granted at times . I want to cry when I hear this song . It's great .

Its a cover.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/17/09

I heard this song many many years ago and for some reason I felt like listening to it, I guess because I would love to know if I can now play it on a acoustic guitar. But I was interested in what people felt about the lyrics - all what I found is the exact same response as I felt when I first heard the song by Maxwell just sheer beauty. But I wanted to make everyone aware that this song was actually written by Kate Bush and it was a great cover by Maxwell
