Review The Song (18)Print the Lyrics
In only a moment truth was seen
Revealed this mystery
The crown that showed no dignity he wore
And the king was placed for all the world to show disgrace
But only beauty flowed from this place

Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands

He held the weight of impurity
The Father would not see
The reasons had finally come to be to show
The depth of His grace flowed with every sin erased
He knew that this was why he came

Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands

And we just don't know
The blood and water flowed
And in it all He shows
Just how much He cares

And the veil was torn
So we could have this open door
And all these things have finally been complete

Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands
Would you take the place of this man
Would you take the nails from his hands,
from his hands, from his hands, from his hands

Clarification for the Lyrics | Reviewer: Jordan | 6/17/09

This song is not meant to be taken as a literal "would you take His place". It's meant to be reinforce the fact that Jesus was THE only one who could have died for us. We are all human and prone to our sinful nature. If one of us COULD take His place, God would've allowed it right after Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus was pure and descended from above. It's meant to highlight what he did and how much he loved us to die for sinful mankind.

"For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die,but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God." (Romans 5:6-9)

What a bad idea- taking Jesus' place | Reviewer: Steve | 5/31/09

I know the song is suppose to be an emotional staement not meant to make sense, but I still have trouble listening to it. Of course I wouldn't take His place. If I did, there would be no redemption for anyone- no one is saved. It makes no sense to even think about it even from a selfish "I'm helping Jesus" kind of way. Why would you stop Him from such a great accomplishment? Or why would you distract yourself and others from the uncompromising accomplishments of the cross to focus on feeling sorry for Jesus. Any focus on feelings should be the feeling of "awe" for being loved that much. Maybe the better question would be, "Do I love others enough to take on or share in their struggles?"- living my faith and feelings.

this song | Reviewer: Capri | 10/6/08

hi i'm 16 and my name is Capri
i love this song it actually gets you thinking about all of this and asking yourself could you like that one girl said
"its not really a matter of WOULD we its a matter of COULD we."
i wrote a whole blog on my myspace about this and alot pf people don't really like to listen and see the wonders that our God has done
i know that i'm just as good as they are but listening to this song and reading the lyrics really changed my way of thinking
and i give thanks that God loves us no matter what!

COULD we? | Reviewer: Ashley | 9/1/08

in Jeremy Camp's album he explains the song like this:( Jeremy is speaking)
"You have probably heard the old saying "put yourself in his shoes." well one, day I was reading about the crucifixion, I thought that if there was a way I could take Christ's place so he would not have to go through what he endured, would I be able to? Would I do the same for him? We would all like to think that we would BUT in all actuality we could not say. He not only went through everything for me but for the whole world. I am not going to sit around and try to figure out those questions, but it makes me more grateful as I understand more of what Jesus went through for me."
In other words:
its not really a matter of WOULD we its a matter of COULD we.

Best song ever! | Reviewer: Lia | 8/8/08

Hi! My name is Lia I am 15 years old! (I'm only teasing Meghan) Anyways, Would you take the place of this man and the nails from his hands? I sure wish I could. I want to suffer for Christ sssssoooOOOOO much. I believe this song is telling us not to take for granted what Jesus did for us and is asking us to contemplate that we really wouldn't have the courage to do so. It's kind of saying "Are you sure you would really take his place?" because we don't realize that in our lives in the easiest situations we don't sacrifice ourselves for the love of others. We don't realize that those are the opportunities God gives us to live for him and take his place. So first realize that it's not the obvious things, but it's the love. And when we see that, then we might be able to say we really would crucify ourselves for Christ.

Can we suffer for jesus | Reviewer: Enoch | 5/30/08

The most awesome song of my life ,tears rolled out I just knelt down and thanked Jesus for his wonderful, countless love. Can any man take the place of Jesus and his suffering.Ok lets put this aside for a moment.let me ask the reader "if you had to die for someone like a friend or your own family member ,would you do it?" I won't be able to do it ,I haven't got so much courage .But look at Jesus ,a man with no guile had to go through all this suffering just for our sakes , to deliver us from our sins and our wickedness saying"father forgive them for they know not what they do"It is only the blood of Jesus that can save a person from his sins and make him whole .I would be glad if i could endure sufferings for Christ and die as a martyr for him.

Beautiful | Reviewer: Arianne | 4/17/08

Wow, this song is so moving. I cried the first time I heard it. It's mind-boggling to think of all He went through for us. I've never seen "The Passion," but I cry when I really think about the torture He endured in silence for us. To think that He loved me so much to go through that...you have to have a really deep love for someone to die for them like that. And He didn't do it half-way; He went all the way, took all the sins, died an excruciating death, and all for me. Me, though I'm sinful and horrible. And He died for you too. You know, as a Christian in America today, it's easy to just sort of go along with your life. Sure, I'm a Christian, but how does it affect my life? Would I REALLY be willing to die for Him? Am I willing to LIVE for Him now, even though I might sacrifice popularity or other things? Am I living to please Him because I love Him and want to do everything I can to further His Name? It's really hard to think about that. I don't want to leave my little cozy bubble, my comfort zone, because I'm afraid of being rejected. But Jesus faced ultimate rejection. He was hit, spit on, yelled at, mocked, flogged, and murdered. What is rejection from a person compared to all that? So thanks, Jeremy, for this beautiful song. God bless y'all. Jesus | Reviewer: HarleyRene | 4/9/08

This song makes me wonder how people can mock Jesus. I mean, people wouldn't mock a soldier who died in battle for his country or a man who died to save his wife. Yet, Jesus did this and... people joke about him and laugh. I mean, even if you don't believe Jesus was the Son of God or anything close, he still died for the same reason. He didn't have to die. All he had to do was say "Okay, okay. I was lying. I'm not the Messiah" and they would've let him go, but he chose to go through with it because he believed he would be saving us. I mean, when people spit on him, hit him, laughed at him, and nailed and raised him onto the cross, the first thing he said was "Forgive them". What kind-of person would do that? And ever more-so, what kind-of person would make fun of that? It just doesn't make sense to me.
