Frank Sinatra This Is All I Ask Lyrics

Last updated: 06/06/2013 12:17:42 PM

Writer(s): Jenkins

As I approach the prime of my life
I find I have the time of my life
Learning to enjoy at my leisure
All the simple pleasure
And so I happily concede

This is all I ask
This is all I need

Beautiful girls, walk a little slower when you walk by me
Lingering sunset, stay a little longer with the lonely sea
Children everywhere, when you shoot at bad men, shoot at me
Take me to that strange enchanted land
Grownups seldom understand

Wandering rainbows, leave a bit of color for my heart to own
Stars in the sky, make my wish come true
Before the night has flown
And let the music play as long as there's a song to sing
Then I will stay younger than spring

My favorite rendition | Reviewer: Jim Maloney | 6/6/13

OK get ready for this. the BEST version of "This is all I ask" was by Buddy Greco. I had the album but through the years have lost it.
Anybody have a copy for sale. Perhaps a search on Ebay!

If you're and fan of the 40's and 50's music, here is one of the most beautful songs to claim as your favorite. Written by Gordon Jenkins, it personifies the sadness of Sinatra's vocals. If you're really into this era....Read "Goodbye" In search of Gordon Jenkins".....by Bruce Jenkins.
I guarantee your laugh and cry!

I've been a fan of Frank Sinatra for many years and own a great many of his records. However, last night I listened to David Jacobs on Radio 2 and heard Frank sing " This is All I Ask". It was the first time I'd heard it and I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and one of Frank's truly great performances. Thank you D J for playing it.

My father, a very good piano player, made a tape of himself to record his rendition of this lovely and sentimental tune. He did this the day before he died of a second heart attack. He had never before taken the step of recording his music. It seems clear that he wished to include this in his legacy to the family and had a premonition that his end was very near. It still brings tears to my eyes.

It's got it all. | Reviewer: Mark 'T' Garth | 3/9/08

I am familiar with this song through Harry Nilsson's version with GORDON JENKINS directing and arranging. I thought it might have came from a movie soundtrack, but I guess not. I'm going to find some different artists versions.

This is my favorite song on the Irish tenor John Gary's first album, in general rotation on the family stereo during my teen years. I sang along with it often, but never knew the title! Search on John Gary today solved that mystery. John Gary sang circles around Frank Sinatra in my opinion. Same era.

My father passed away when I was eighteen. This was one of his favorite songs. Thank you for posting the lyrics.
