This Ain't Nothin' Lyrics - Craig Morgan

Review The Song (19)

He was standing in the rubble of an old farmhouse outside Birmingham
When some on the scene reporter stuck a camera in the face of that old man
He said "tell the folks please mister, what are you gonna do
Now that this twister has taken all that's dear to you"
The old man just smiled and said "boy let me tell you something, this ain't nothing"

He said I lost my daddy, when I was eight years old,
That cave-in at the Kincaid mine left a big old hole,
And I lost my baby brother, my best friend and my left hand
In a no win situation in a place called Vietnam
And last year I watched my loving wife, of fifty years waste away and die
And I held her hand til her heart of gold stopped pumping,
So this ain't nothin'

He said I learned at an early age,
There's things that matter and there's things that don't
So if you're waiting here for me to cry,
I hate to disappoint you boy, but I won't

Then he reached down in the rubble and picked up a photograph
Wiped the dirt off of it with the hand that he still had
He put it to his lips and said man she was something
But this ain't nothin'

He said I lost my daddy, when I was eight years old,
That cave-in at the Kincaid mine left a big old hole,
And I lost my baby brother, my best friend and my left hand
In a no win situation in a place called Vietnam
And last year I watched my loving wife, of fifty years waste away and die
We were holding hands when her heart of gold stopped pumping
So this ain't nothin'

This ain't nothin' time won't erase
And this ain't nothin' money can't replace
He said you sit and watch your loving wife fifty years fighting for her life
Then you hold her hand til her heart of gold stops pumping
Yeah boy that's something,
So this ain't nothin'
No this ain't nothin'

My experience exactly! | Reviewer: Herb | 5/22/13

This song tells my story. My wife suffered from pancreatic cancer which often kills within months. We were fortunate that she lived 3 years and 10 months before passing. Allow me to tell you how she passed.....I woke up about 2:00 am and felt a sense of urgency, I held my wife's hand in mine so that I could feel her pulse. Her pulse was very, very weak. I knew the end was very near. I continued to hold her hand in mine until her hand just went limp at about 2:15 am. Yes, I was holding the hand of the love of my life as her heart stopped beating. We were together for 30 years, 28 of which we were married and had 4 wonderful children. What prompted me to awaken just 5 minutes before she died? That question gives me hope that there is indeed more than this life we live. Somebody, something woke me up and "told" me to hold my wife's hand. I am so thankful for having the privelege to hold her hand at that moment. This song has a special meaning to me, obviously

There Are Things That Matters, And There Are Things That Don’t | Reviewer: Randy Ehrler | 5/23/12

Craig Morgan summed it up beautifully in this song with the line:
“There Are Things That Matters, And There Are Things That Don’t.” True words. The old man in the song has seen a lot, he has lived a full life – facing every challenge head on – he has been humbled by life and is know wise to what really matters, and what does not.

To fully emerge as the individual God created you to be, you must experience struggle, tragedy, hardship and loss. These experienecs mold and forge the heart, mind and soul. My favorite bible verse speaks to this:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
- James 1: 2-4

We all enter this world with nothing and will leave it the same way. Knowing that nothing can be “owned” or “possessed” – why do we spend so much time trying to do so? Our true legacy is in the relationships we forge and the impact we have – through God’s grace – on other people’s lives. Think of a moment of crisis in your life – that moment of panic when everything else fell away and every ounce of your being was focused on this single moment – that is how are lives are to be lived. Our focus should be on loving and serving God, our families and others - on the eternal, not the momentary.

Peace & God Bless!

good song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/7/11

all y'all who think that its not right for him to say a woman 'with a heart of gold' 'wastes away' are wrong. the best of people can slowly lose their life to cancer too. so obviously if your looking for a song about lala land and sugarcoatedness, thats not the real world. his song, on the other hand, is. so dont just write bad reviews because your too ignorant to point out something incorrectly, or something that doesnt need correcting. write a review when you get a college education on musical skepticism.

A Great Story Teller | Reviewer: Ryan J | 2/7/11

Craig Morgan is a great country singer and story teller. This song captures a great story as he has done in the past with Almost Home. You can listen to this song and actually see what he is singing about. Very powerful song. I actually sing and have covered a few of his songs because they actually tell great stories and touch your heart.

this is your quote: "The way he described her "heart of gold" and using "waste away and die" are definately 2 opposite ends. I think He should have just used "fighting for her life" throughout the whole entire song." I think that the whole point of the song is to tell it how it is, not sugar coating anything. It is supposed to have that amount of realism. To show the true, raw emotion of that old man and his story, the story in the song is told through the eyes of that old man. Watching the love of his life "fighting for her life" in his eyes was watching her waste away and die. So many songs these days sugar coat their songs to make them sound "nicer". The lesson in the song is basically to pick your battles in life, to see past drama and bullsh*t, to appreciate what you have that much more, to never take anything for granted. It is a song that positively influences the lives of many many people that hear it, cheers for Craig Morgan who had the guts to not pussy foot around with sugar coating life. Oh, and as for the comment titled Silliness.. | Reviewer: Ron | 9/9/10. You're one to talk about not knowing good values. Obviously you have some deeply buried personal issues that cause you to lash out with no basis for your actions. It's obvious that you are the one without a sense of good values, otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to judge and run your mouth. You don't like country music, all the power to you, that's your choice, you have that right. That doesn't automatically give you the right to trash talk a whole music genre and it's committed fans because you don't like it. At least the person you accused of making up their values had some, unlike yourself, who doesn't seem to understand that having good values and morals means to respect other people regardless of your own opinons. The difference is, I may think that you are an ignorant as*hole for your comments, again, unlike yourself, I have enough class to state my opinion respectfully, not trash talk you. I'm not going to come on here and degrade you because I don't like the comment that you left. The Golden Rule my friend, treat other people the way you would like to be treated. Maybe, just maybe, if you learn that lesson, you may be able to develop a sense of good, proper morals and values, instead of resorting to elementary school level name calling and bullying. Have a great day.

Still Living | Reviewer: Dawn | 10/17/10

I have a had a crazy life. In fact, I just got moved to a new home. I am 17 Years old and a senior in highschool. This song helps me get through the hard times when i think that the world is crashing down on me because my boyfriend and i just broke. but then it makes me reaslize that , losing my brother , my mom, my dad, fighting for justic for my lil sis and i , being moved every year, and having a brother of 1 year and never going to see him. My only living brother . So this drama crap at school and this boyfriend can wait. because it ain't nothing (: thanks for reading !

>-Country music today is the only music made in the USA that proudly displays the morals, values and culture that made America great. Listening across the FM band, Country is the only music telling stories of times and feelings that are real..most all of the rest is chest thumping (i'm so hot) or woe is me I got it so bad BS. -<

How many songs do I have to list? 1 song versus hundreds? Country music, and more in particular country 'folk' have been the worst in attitudes and morals. I love this song even though I abhore country music. Although, in a way, the guys lost so much what. is he missing an eye? Some toes? An arm? His license? What else.

You don't know what good values are, you've made yours up.

i love this song. really i do...
But I don't understand why he would say she "waste" away.
i jus think that instead of using "waste away and die" in the lyrics. It seems a little- ugly? to say something like that, especially over someone precious such as the wife. The way he described her "heart of gold" and using "waste away and die" are definately 2 opposite ends. I think He should have just used "fighting for her life" throughout the whole entire song.
i would be more inlove with the song than what i already am.
