Stevie Wonder They Won't Go When I Go Lyrics

Last updated: 10/30/2011 11:00:00 AM

No more lying friends
Wanting tragic ends
Though they do pretend
They won't go when I go

All those bleeding hearts
With sorrows to impart
Were right here from the start
And they won't go when I go

And I'll go where I've longed
To go so long
Away from tears

Gone from painful cries
Away from saddened eyes
Along with him I'll bide
Because they won't go when I go

Big men feeling small
Weak ones standing tall
I will watch them fall
They won't go when I go

And I'll go where I've longed
To go so long
Away from tears

Unclean minds mislead the pure
The innocent will leave for sure
For them there is a resting place
People sinning just for fun
They will never see the sun
For they can never show their faces
There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who will take more than he will give
He ain't hardly gonna give

The greed of man will be
Far away from me
And my soul will be free
They won't go when I go

Since my soul conceived
All that I believe
The kingdom I will see
'Cause they won't go when I go

When I go
Where I'll go
No one can keep me
From my destiny.

Perhaps his most moving song | Reviewer: Milton | 10/28/11

This song came off of his grammy award winning album "Fulfillingness' First Finale" released in 1974. It was, in my opinion, he's most moving song up to that point and it remains so for me. It was co-written by his first wife Syreeta "Yvonne" Wright.

deep lyrics.... | Reviewer: Najiwavey | 12/7/09

I really cant believe I never heard this song before... the performance Stevie dropped at Michael's funeral blew me away...maybe because you could feel the energy that Stevie was singing could feel he meant every favorite Stevie performance by far...

poignant and pure genius | Reviewer: swanieg | 7/9/09

I've always loved this song written and recorded by Stevie and was pleasantly surprised when he sang it to Michael. How fitting. And even though I'd always sung along, I realized I didn't really know all of the lyrics. Now that I've read them, WOW!

Brilliant Choice for MJJ Memorial | Reviewer: peter J. Knockstead | 7/10/09

This song, preceded by "Never Dreamed You leave in Summer, was a masterful choice song by the master himself at Michael Jackson's memorial service. Both songs with beautiful lyrics and vocals by Stevie have always been my favorite. The songs are haunting and beautiful and an incredible tribute from one great entertainer to another,

Incredible snapshot of today | Reviewer: AP | 12/26/06

Stevie Wonder has once again proven why he is a lyrical genius as well as a musical talent. "They Won't Go When I Go" is a blunt and almost synical view of a mans surroundings and how he chooses to act against pre-determined damnation. George Michael's interpretation does it absolute justice, his vocal talents driving home Stevie's soul searching message.
I give this song five stars.
