The narrow way Lyrics - Pink Floyd

Review The Song (7)

Following the path as it leads toward
The darkness in the north
Weary strangers' faces show their sympathy
They've seen that hope before

And if you want to stay for a little bit
Rest your aching limbs for a little bit
Before you the night is beckoning
And you know you can't delay
You hear the night birds calling you
But you can't catch the words they say
Close your aching eyes, be on your way

Mist is swirling, creatures crawling
Hear the roar get louder in your ears
You know the folly was your own
But the force behind can't conquer all your fears

And if you want to stay for a little bit
Rest your aching limbs for a little bit
Before you the night is beckoning
And you know you can't delay
You hear the night birds calling you
But you can't catch the words they say
Close your aging eyes, be on your way

Throw your thoughts back many years
To the time when there was life with every morning
Perhaps a day will come when the light will be as clear as on that morning

And if you want to stay for a little bit
Rest your aching limbs for a little bit
Before you the night is beckoning
And you know you can't delay
You hear the night birds calling you
But you can't catch the words they say
Close your ancient eyes, be on your way

are you the composer? | Reviewer: tony palmer | 3/6/13

pink floyd should not be labelled from the bohemian left bank of the seine. they are not avant garde or progressive or branded by any other wordspeak packaging. they were artists creating works of art. listen and enjoy. no need for intellectualism or even comment other than WOW

best part of narrow way | Reviewer: rashid | 5/18/12

i think lyrics depicts the aging of man like he is heading towards end of something or death. as he can't delay it he should only focus on good time he had instead of aching limbs and helplessness like inability to hear

One of my favorites | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/8/11

Neil is correct. David Gilmour plays all instruments. Ummagumma was an "experimental" album. The first album was mostly un released live tracks. Astronomy Domine included Syd Barrett. The second album allowed each member of the group, 1 fourth to do with what they wished. "A Nice Pair" wich was The Floyd's first 2 albums was released in the states in the early 70's. On it included the version of Astronomy Domine that was on Ummagumma and not the studio version that was on "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" The Piper at the Gates of Dawn was the name of 5th chapter of the book "The Wind and the Willows" which was a faovorite of Syd Barrett.

I love this song | Reviewer: Neil | 6/9/11

Ummagumma is one of my favourite Floyd albums. I've played it more than Dark Side, Wish You Were Here et. al.I love its strangeness, and the way that it sounds like nothing else in the rock canon.

I have to correct Don Kelley though - Rick Wright doesn't play on The Narrow Way. All the voices and instruments are by Gilmour, including those great, Nick Mason-soundalike drums. (There is online footage somewhere of David playing drums, which looks kind of odd, I think.)

Super | Reviewer: Andy | 5/28/10

super song, super lyrics. i even heard it when i was 10, 30 years. This song was my favorite always. Pink floyd, the first gothic like band.
The have spiritual and sometimes philosophic lyrics like that.

Awesome song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/12/07

I absolutely love long progressive rock songs, and that is why I love Pink Floyd. The Narrow Way is a 3 part suite written by David Gilmour. It features an acoustic guitar sequence for the first part, an eerie electric guitar in the second. And David Gilmour on Vocals in the Third. This is a great song. However, if you're not into avant garde style rock and roll, you might not like it as much.

Early pink floyd song that's as good as or better than dark side content | Reviewer: Don Kelley | 8/21/07

Narrow Way Part 3: This is an absolutely amazing song showcasing David Gilmour's songwriting talent and great guitar tones. Basically a duo between Gilmour and keyboardist Rick Wright's amazing harmonized vocals that cover dark side of the moon many many years later (remember Narrow way was written and recorded in the 60s!!) this song's amazing chord progressions play with one's ears with the best of dark side, the wall, and gilmour's solo efforts from decades later.

A standout from an otherwise very strange, wonderful yet mostly only for the hardcore floyd fan album Ummagumma, the narrow way Part 3 should have been single back then and should be rereleased now and should also be part of the regular floyd live show IMHO.
