The Infant Kiss Lyrics - Kate Bush

Review The Song (3)

say good night-night
I tuck him in tight.
But things are not right.

What is this? An infant kiss
That sends my body tingling?

I've never fallen for
A little boy before.
No control.

Just a kid and just at school.
Back home they'd call me dirty.
His little hand is on my heart.
He's got me where it hurts me.
Knock, knock. Who's there in this baby?
You know how to work me.

All my barriers are going.
It's starting to show.

Let go. Let go. Let go.

I cannot sit and let
Something happen I'll regret.
Ooh, he scares me!

There's a man behind those eyes.
I catch him when I'm bending.

Ooh, how he frightens me
When they whisper privately.
("Don't Let Go!")
Windy-wailey blows me.

Words of caress on their lips
That speak of adult love.

I want to smack but I hold back.
I only want to touch.

But I must stay and find a way
To stop before it gets too much!

All my barriers are going.
It's starting to show.
Let go. Let go. Let go.
(Don't let go!)

Probably her best | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/26/12

So many songs could be called Kate's best, and this is surely one of them. A perfect haunting melody, atmosphere and lyrics. Based on 'The Innocents', which itself is based on 'The Turn of the Screw' which is about a governess who thinks ghosts are possessing the two children in her care. In the film the boy, Miles, is seemingly under the influence of the dead former gardner (I think he was a gardener?) and acts way more mature than he actually is, including giving his governess a goodnight kiss that lasts about 5 seconds! Just background for anyone who didn't know

Beautiful. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/8/09

This song really is haunting, and makes you think about it for quite a while after hearing this beautiful song. It was written for a horror film, with a nanny who cares for some children, that probably behave in the way described in the song.

My fav KB song | Reviewer: windowscreen | 8/4/08

This song is overlooked by many fans-some even go so far as to say it shouldn't have been allowed on the album-but it remains my favorite KB song, even after I've finished devouring The Dreaming and Hounds of Love.
The melody is haunting, and the vocals perfectly portray, in my mind, a woman who is doing her best to fight a forbidden love. The lyrics are beautifully crafted, and the simplicity of the instrumentals only adds rather than leaves one wanting more.
