The Final Countdown Lyrics - Europe

Review The Song (24)

We're leaving together,
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back,
To earth, who can tell ?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown...

We're heading for Venus and still we stand tall
Cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all
With so many light years to go and things to be found
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so.

This song has has single-handedly ruined keyboards for me forever. An absolute atrocity upon the ears. Everything that was terrible about the 80s all wrapped up in one stinker of a song. The main riff will steal your soul and crush your dreams with it's unrelenting awfulness.

The song's lyrics were inspired by David Bowie's song "Space Oddity" not some gay dude leaving his lover. Retard!

We're leaving together
But still it's farewell
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown
The final countdown

Ohh
We're heading for Venus and still we stand tall
'Cause maybe they've seen us and welcome us all, yea
With so many light years to go and things to be found
(To be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so

Innocense and Hope | Reviewer: dsire | 3/10/11

I agree with the former reviewer in that this song has nothing to do with homosexuality or any kind of sexuality for matter. I was a young teenager during the 80's/90's and along with wonderful variety, so much of the music back then was infused with hope and belief in endless possibilities for our future. The Final Countdown is a beautiful piece of work that was definitely ahead of itself and is most assuredly about venturing into space and exploration. The magnificent possibilities and potential that awaits us. Simply put, it was and is a song of innocence and hope.

peace ;o)

Response to "Europe is gay" | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/25/11

How does Venus's sign being the female symbol have anything to do with being gay? and i would like to point out that it says "All miss HER so"

I don't think this is about being gay, I think it's about the Sci-Fi era, and I actually think I found a relation between this song and the movie Serenity.

So there we have it. You're wrong

an epic song... | Reviewer: gr8_leo | 12/11/10

final countdown is really a very great song coz it can always be interpreted in several ways.the song originally has its roots in space-age culture which originated due to avant-garde movies like "star-wars" and "total recall".the music is quiet ahead of its times and reaches the depths of the mind....i love this song.

EUROPE IS GAY | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/8/10

This song is about the homosexual culture's burst into the music in the 80's.

"Oh, We're heading for Venus (The symbol of the planet Venus is ♀)
and still we stand tall
cause maybe they've seen us
and welcome us all, yeah"

means that the writer and his gay lover are coming out of the closet.

"with so many light years to go
and things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so
It's the final countdown."

However, the writer doesn't feel his lover is 'the one' and plans to dump him in the future. Also, it's worth noting that 'Venus' and 'to be found' are the only two repeated lyrics, which suggests that they are related. He intends to miss his current boyfriend.

We can thus ask ourselves, "The countdown to what?"

In the first stanza, it can be assumed that the final countdown represents coming out of the closet, while it represents Venus. However, it is actually the countdown to when he dumps his boyfriend.

What's really interesting is that the theme carries over with The Darkness - I Believe in a Thing Called Love.

Its a fonderful song | Reviewer: Muhammad Asif | 10/16/09

I heard this song first time in 1995, it was title song for cricket world cup program in 1996 about cricket wourld cup history by AUSTRAILIA tv, that day onwards this my favourt song, and our life is like countdown.

different meaning | Reviewer: nerzek | 5/27/09

Despite the fact that the song was written about ten years before it happened, it seems as though it could be about the heaven's gate cult. The group committed mass suicide (we're leaving together) to get to a spaceship (we're leaving ground ... we're heading for Venus).

Counting Down | Reviewer: wes | 3/5/09

I work on a oil field in the Gulf of Mexico and we love singing aloud cheesy but catchy songs as we work. Its funny and makes the two weeks at a time we spend out there suck a little less. Especially as the countdown to our departure of the rig gets closer

Most inspirational song... ever. | Reviewer: Jaimien | 9/24/08

As a week little child, about 90 lbs in the 10th grade. I joined the wrestling team and told my coach "I want to be big". He just so happened to be the coach for football and basketball and so for a year and a half I was kind of under his wing. I'd go in to my school's weightroom everyday with him and the team that he was coaching or the class that he was teaching and he'd BLAST that song. When he didn't, I had it on a walkman. It never got old. It always inspired me to push myself past the limit, and to even go BEYOND that.
You might have guessed it, I'm big now. And I have a wrestling scholarship to ASU.

Saved my life! It is clearly an inspiration to all aspiring astronauts. I hope that one day I may go to Venus as well! This song will stand the test of time as the greatest song about astronauts ever made! What could be better than astronauts going to Venus and because of the highly corosive atmosphere they will be poisoned and never come back! They will clearly all "miss her so" meaning Earth because they are careening to the ultimate death! The atmosphere on Venus is 96.5% carbon dioxide which means their heads will likely explode and they do it all for the greater good of science!

I mean, come on! The gravatational pull alone would have them splattered on the ground as soon as they stepped foot out of their ship! ...on second thought this song is inaccurate and completely sucks.

This song is great. I hadn't played it for a while when I clicked on a random song from one of my playlists, and it was "Final Countdown". If anyone's an author, I've found it great inspiration for writing fight scenes for some reason. I choose to interpret "We're headed for Venus" as heading for unknown territory, possibly hostile territory. Again, great song.

No final countdown for this song | Reviewer: Timoi | 1/31/08

This is one of the songs which should never stop playing and disappear from our minds. I don't mean to play it back to back for hours, days, weeks, months or years on end but we should never forget it and we should always play it once in a while. The final countdown has 2 sides to it as does everything in life. It represents the end of something great but on the flip side it is reminding us that with the end of this we head towards something even better. Maybe it will be long and hard to get to it but we will eventually reach something better.

My life in a Song. | Reviewer: Jade | 12/6/07

I first heard this song on tv. They were advertising for some video games. The music caught my ears. Then, I got the song and heard it over and over again. I loved it. As with any song you can interpret anyway you like. In my life it fits me perfectly. I am going through a break up. My love of four years and I are going our own separate ways. He is moving away to study abroad. And in the moving this song just fits me perfectly. I hope to find some more bitter sweet yet inspirational songs like this.
