Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah [x9]
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh........ (from the third yeah yeah yeah to the eighth)

If you could blow up the world
With the flick of a switch
Would you do it?
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah)
If you could make everybody poor
Just so you could be rich
Would you do it?
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah)

If you could watch everybody work
While you just lay on your back
Would you do it?
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah)
If you could take all the love
Without giving any back
Would you do it?
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah)

And so we cannot know ourselves
Or what we'd really do

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

(No no no no, no no no no)

If you could make your own money
And then give it to everybody
Would you do it?
(No no no no, no no no no)
If you knew all the answers
And could give to the masses
Would you do it?
(No no no no, no no no no)

Are you crazy?
It's a very dangerous thing to do
Exactly what you want
Because you cannot know yourself,
Or what you'd really do

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you
Do do do do, do do do do [x2]
(Yeah yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah yeah) [x10]
ahhhhhhhhhh...... (from third yeah yeah line to the last one)

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

With all your power
With all your power
With all your power
What would you do?

wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah [x1.75]

Review about The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song

I'm a fan | Reviewer: themightysteve@hotmail.com | 6/27/09

The Yeah Yeah Yeah song is fantastic.

At first glance it's a catchy tune- with the wonderful vocals of Mark Coyne melding into the instrumentals beautifully- which seems rather jolly when approached superficially (nothing wrong with that, why does music need to be profound?).

However, on further listening, with a greater focus on the lyrics, it becomes apparent that Coyne is commenting on humanity's tendency to fulfill self-interest before anything else. Unveiling a dark critique of the human psyche, provoking cynical thoughts in the listener and leading them to contemplate this great flaw, which has plagued mankind since history began. The lyrics bring to mind that old proverb 'Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

The true beauty of this song in my opinion (after all, what's a review but opinion?) lies in the irony. Such a happy-go-lucky song being used to portray a dark aspect of mankind, is a wonderful method, one often utilised by The Flaming Lips.

But it has to be asked - if the song wasn't so superficially happy, if it was as dark sounding as the message it conveys, would anyone read as deeply into this lyrical masterpiece?

Flaming Lips are great | Reviewer: nervous | 11/22/08

look people.. if you think it's annoying, then don't listen to it and stop complaining, it's not a big deal..

i happen to love everything about this song, and the flaming lips music in general.. that's just my taste.. if it's not yours, then go listen to something else..

great | Reviewer: oi oi stevie-boy | 8/30/08

to everybody:

i simply can not believe that several flaming lips fans (which most of the reviewers here are) have a need to try to prove a 14 year old that she's wrong. i am absolutely sure that 200% 14-year-olds would find this song to be anoying. they've got so much music to listen before they get to a state where they could understand the Lips.

on the other hand, i have to say that this song represents the flaming lips in every way. it's a bit catchy, like many flaming's tunes. it's a bit anoying, like some parts of there songs. it has a message like most of their songs.

it's definetly a great song to open the mystics album with.

cheers.

Since when does all music have to sound the same? The Flaming Lips are great and can use whatever they damn like in their songs because they certainly have a knack for churning out some pretty good stuff. I love this song and think the lyrics are spot on.

to that dude cyber ducks ahoy | Reviewer: matt | 2/18/08

The Flaming Lips sing about the greed thats overtaking the world and that is the greatest message anyone can ever put into a song, short of putting the 19 and a half minutes of missing recordings from the Watergate tapes or the confession that there actually was a second gunman on the grassy knoll. As for the "annoying" noises, get over it. There the band with over a dozen albums.

Kids these days. All of them are a bunch of self-riteous cunts.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely | Reviewer: Daniel | 1/15/08

This song is quite a good rebuttal of communism, fascism, socialism, tyranny, absolute monarchy, and dictatorsip. On the surface these can look pretty good, but in actuality they do not work, due to human nature. And I do like the strange eclectic sound of this band. Their songs are catchy, and oftentimes simple with a profound message.

With all your power! | Reviewer: Manitou | 10/27/07

This is an anthem for those opposing the insane amount of power we have given our political leaders. The live version of this song on the UFO's at the Zoo DVD will give Jessica and others who don't get it a whole new appreciation for the song.

the song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/17/07

ok, so the son gis weird

but its catchy, ad the lyrics are surprisingly good and actually meaningful, comparing this to most other bands.

Dirge | Reviewer: ony Liar | 7/27/07

This song is a fine example of how to waste perfectly good electricity in order to give an identity to screwed up unwashed teenagers (and people who, despite the provosion of full time education, use words such as 'awesome'. Utter trash.

Enraged, manic cyber duck indeed | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/24/07

I am really sorry. I have to agree completely with Jessica here. Except for the not liking it bit. Seriously, what's not to love about an enraged, manic cyber duck? That, my friends, is some sweet music. The song's so called turning "to the dark side of electronics," is completely non-existant. The lighthearted music is juxtaposed beautifully with the "powerful questions" that the lyrics pose. Plus, it's pretty dang catchy.
