The Visitors Lyrics - Abba

Review The Song (10)

I hear the doorbell ring and suddenly the panic takes me
The sound so ominously tearing through the silence
I cannot move, I'm standing
Numb and frozen
Among the things I love so dearly
The books, the paintings and the furniture
Help me

The signal's sounding once again and someone tries the door-knob
None of my friends would be so stupidly impatient
And they don't dare to come here
Anymore now
But how I loved our secret meetings
We talked and talked in quiet voices
Smiling

Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
sponsored links
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up

These walls have witnessed all the anguish of humiliation
And seen the hope of freedom glow in shining faces
And now they've come to take me
Come to break me
And yet it isn't unexpected
I have been waiting for these visitors
Help me

Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up

Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
Now I hear them moving
Muffled noises coming through the door
I feel I'm
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
Voices growing louder, irritation building
And I'm close to fainting
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
They must know by now I'm in here trembling
In a terror evergrowing
Crackin' up
(I have been waiting for these visitors)
My whole world is falling, going crazy
There is no escaping now, I'm
Crackin' up

Aliens | Reviewer: Ola k ase | 6/4/13

Wow, just hearing this song while i was reading the lyrics was really incredible. Aliens that came and start doing noises and someone who was scared and a lot of different stuff. Just incredible.

reveered by all (I should have said, not simply re-appraised)
Lots of youngsters today, bombarded by comercial dross, are hardly aware of the great music of the past. If they are lucky they may catch snippets which are often used in tv comercials.

brilliant dance song.... and seems really original way different to their disco stuff . Too much for its time. And even now is really spooky. I,ve only been listening to this for the last year or so ... somehow missed it back then.
There is lots of good music nowadays too but you have to look beneath the comercial veneer, eg to awolnation...
A time will come when the 70s music shall be re-apraised as a major era of exploration and discovery of unimagined sounds.

... as its finest.
ABBA and of course their producer had a great talent to adapt different Popmusic Styles to their own sound.
The Track Visitors - also The Day before You came - shows very good how they got in touch with the upcoming Electropop genre. And they did it in a very elegant and High Class way. Their handling with Synthesizers and Sequencers was at a very high level.

Incredible---their best and most complex song! | Reviewer: Todd | 4/28/12

I must have listened to this song 2000 times over the years and I never cease to be amazed at its depth...this group progressed to their most intimate work....and "The Visitors" will be regarded as one of the great albums of all time!

ballet track too | Reviewer: Martin | 11/2/08

Great keyboard work and vocals; the hazy, droning synth lines invoke an ominous atmosphere. The lyrics could be about Soviet dissidents, but also about dark, old memories. One who did appreciate it was the famous Swedish choreograpoher Birgit Cullberg, in the mid-eighties she did a tv ballet show (for Swedish public tv, I just saw it in a rerun showing) based on a dozen Abba tracks and produced a very powerful, surreal scenery for this song.

great dance song | Reviewer: gdub | 7/16/08

This was one of my favorite songs to dance to as a baby homo in the early '80s. I would stop all conversation, put down my drink and head for the floor as soon as I heard those first eerie sounds. The longer the re-mix, the better. They played it in all the gay dance bars — LOVE IT!

Frida & Benny thriller | Reviewer: Pedro | 4/16/08

This is perhaps Frida's best interpretation, along with Should I Laugh or Cry and Like an Angel Passing Through My Room: unexpected, strange, makes you pay attention to the mysterious story (the police bangs at the door or is it about ETs?); Benny and his keyboards haunt the atmosphere 'til it cracks up as the title says... A surprise even to those used to the Abba sound.

Long Play | Reviewer: Joe | 4/8/08

I actually had this album on LP. Your right, this song was so far ahead of it's time. This has to be one of the most listened to songs, for me, that I have. The symphony like over tones really reflect how advanced and complex Abba's mucis is.

Visitors ahead of their time | Reviewer: Craig | 6/14/07

This song has never gotten due credit. At the time of release it was too edgy for pop stations, and not rough enough for hard rock enthusiasts. But the song epitomizes techno-pop at its finest. It would be a popular song in any dance club, even today.
