The Twelfth of Never Lyrics

Performed by Johnny Mathis
Review The Song (4)

You ask how much I need you, must I explain?
I need you, oh my darling, like roses need rain.
You ask how long I'll love you; I'll tell you true:
Until the twelfth of never, I'll still be loving you.

Hold me close, never let me go.
Hold me close, melt my heart like April snow.

I'll love you till the bluebells forget to bloom;
I'll love you till the clover has lost its perfume.
I'll love you till the poets run out of rhyme,
Until the twelfth of never and that's a long, long time.

Hold me close, never let me go.
Hold me close, melt my heart like April snow.

I'll love you till the bluebells forget to bloom;
I'll love you till the clover has lost its perfume.
I'll love you till the poets run out of rhyme,
Until the twelfth of never and that's a long, long time.

Until the twelfth of never and that's a long, long time.

My lovely mum asked for this song to be played at her funeral for my dad. They were married for nearly 52 years. I think it is the most beautiful way to tell someone how much you love them.

A sinple beautiful statement of eternity | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/19/12

I have chosen and recorded The Twelfth of Never for my wonderful wife of 56 year's coming funeral. She is in the 4th month of a possible 6 that I can love and honor her in life. And yes, the Twelfth of never IS a long long time... We are counting on it... RG

Thank You Both for Such Beauty. | Reviewer: Dena Lupke | 8/31/09

Never will there be a Love Song that tells the 1 You Love that you will be there into eternity with them with Your Love ... and Johnny Mathis has done this for many years. I first heard Johnny When I was Younger and My Brother said ..'Listen to the Words .. learn from the ... Then you Find Love to Fill the Song' ... I Finally Have.... Thank You for such Beauty. Melody "Borrowed" From British Folk Song | Reviewer: Donna | 11/11/05

Credit is given for words and music to Webster and Livingston; however the tune for "The Twelfth of Never" is the same as an old English folk song in the genre of "riddle songs". In the British Isles it was known as "The Riddle Song" or "I Gave My Love a Cherry". The only difference is the bridge for "The Twelfth of Never".
