The nucleus of The Sweet came together in 1966, when
drummer Michael Thomas Tucker (b. 17 July 1947, Harlesden,
London, England) and vocalist Brian Francis Connolly (b. 5
October 1945, Hamilton, Scotland) played together in
Wainwright's Gentlemen, a small-time club circuit band
whose repertoire comprised a mixture of Motown, R&B and
psychedelia. The pair broke away to form Sweetshop, later
shortened to just Sweet, with Steve Norman Priest (b. 23
February 1950, Hayes, Middlesex) on bass and Frank Torpey
on guitar. After releasing four unsuccessful singles on

------ About the song Ballroom Blitz performed by The Sweet
I forgot I had this song on my iPod, and it came on when I shuffled during a passing period at school today. I'd been having a really crappy day, and it was such a pick-me-up. It was difficult to keep myself from rocking out in the hallway, hehe. It's really a fantastically done song that doesn't get enough credit for all that it is.
Way ahead of their time. | Reviewer: Tony
------ About artist/band The Sweet
This is a 60's group primarily that were playing 70's and beyond before those sounds even came to light.
Sure, some fun stuff with Little Willy, Ball Room Blitz but even those were iconic.
The harder digs were what put The Sweet ahead of their time. Blockbuster, The Six Teens, etc.
God love ya guys. The music of today owes you for blazing a path for them and most don't even know it.

------ About the song Ballroom Blitz performed by The Sweet
Well i have only a few things to say and that is that BallroomBlitz is a song with speed and a catchy name. Many covers have been done but still the original always will be the best.

------ About the song Tall Girls performed by The Sweet
Although Brian Connolly had left the band earlier that year, it's still SWEET! The vocals are perfect. If you listen to any of the post-Connolly efforts, ("Cut Above The Rest", "Water's Edge" (or Sweet VI), and "Identity Crisis", you'd notice (as Led Zeppelin said) the song remains the same. Just because Brian isn't There, doesn't mean it's trash! Tom

Im only 13 i have a great history in music and The Sweet is one of my favorites from Ballroom Blitz to Hell Raiser they are pheonominal each song shows creativity and passion. They are a wild interesting group. Although their vocalist has passed away they are still appreciated. As a guitarist myself their unique organization of chords and notes just amazes me.

------ About the song Funny Funny performed by The Sweet
Great song and incredible band! Been loving The Sweet for YEARS! If you like this song then you'll want to take a listen to their other stuff cause these guys were really phenomenal! They were so far ahead of their time and now everyone (like Def Leppard, and Krokus) are covering their songs! :) Long live The Sweet!
This song has always had a special meaning for me because it was the name of my last Band. But beyond that you cannot miss how far ahead of it's time it really is. Try playing this song for someone without identifiying it and ask them how old they thing it is. I have done that many times and the answers usually start at 10 years or so. It is of course much older than that.
It has a power that comes out in the tempo changes, it just drives you along in a very special way.
