The sound of The Strokes is the result of frantic living,
and the late nights and the early mornings they've spent
making their music in New York City. Their music makes you
want to forget who you are, and unlocks the possibilities
of what you might want to be.
The Strokes are five close friends who began assembling
together at the Music Building in New York City sometime in
1998 to lay down the foundations of a rock 'n roll band.
Together on stage at a Strokes show you will see and hear:
vocalist/songwriter Julian Casablancas delivering biting
lyrics, Fabrizio Moretti beating his drums with furious
precision, guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. moving smoothly on
his feet while his fingers effortlessly flow over his axe,
guitarist Nick Valensi with pick in hand tantali More...

------ About the song You Only Live Once performed by The Strokes
This song is about living life the way that you want to live it. If other people want to live it differently then that's fine. Life is about pleaseing yourself and other's, because you only live once.
Being a kid who was immediattly introduced into the good ol music of the past, ie. The Cure, The Pixies etc. The Strokes really speak to me. This song is just amazing and definitly one of my favorites, and Regina and Julians voices are pretty much the perfect match, which was already stated in the past comments.

------ About the song Soma performed by The Strokes
This song is about brave new world by aldous Huxley. Soma was the name of the drug of choice in the distopia of the future, and one of the many characters who doesn't fit in refuses to take the soma like everyone else because he wants reality at the expense of comfort/pleasure.

for all those who have criticized the opinions of others of this son and what they think about it you are doing completely the opposite of what the song says. they have all the right to put their insights of the song and religion, its up to you if you want to read it or not.
I actually think it is a great song and as many others have stated is a song of enjoying life to the fullest and that one by being open minded (cultures, thoughts, religions, etc) receives more knowledge and makes it easier to live it to the fullest as one in a sense finds their self, their personality.
(This is just my opinions, you might have a completely another one)

------ About the song Juicebox performed by The Strokes
this song reminds me of being really isolated and just being angry with the world, openly angry with people and kind of saying that they're not so great, and to come over here.
like "why won't you come over here"
i just love it, i wish i could shout it to a lot of people haha

why is everyones answer to each song by the strokes, "it's linked to him being an alcoholic" its one of their most happy songs! i know it makes me feel instantly happy each time i hear it. Don't drag it down with complicated matters..
"sit me down, shut me up, i'll calm down and i'll get along with you"

------ About the song On The Other Side performed by The Strokes
i have heard and felt these exact feelings before. while going through what i can only imagine to be a similar experience to julian whilst touring this album. theres a pattern that emerges throughout which is synonimous with borederline alcoholism, which can be most prevalent on, not only the 2nd verse here but also tracks such as 'fear of sleep'. when going through some proper crap, which i still do, to do with booze, these 3 words resonate with me a lot. going to bed is scary. thats when the demons come, and they wake you up dead early just to fuck your day up. you can also tell by the delivery in his voice on this record that he's pissed.for sure. i know, i sing like him a bit, but not for the want of trying, for the want of not.this album is one of my favourite albums of all time because of the crap you can hear coming out of his mouth, not even a strokes fan, but a fan of the honesty in it, and if someone could prove to met that they even remember recording most of this record then i'd probably love it less. but i bet they cant. ive heard and said these words a thousand times, but i guess maybe only drunks want to hear them so theyre not alone. better the strokes than the heebie-jeebies. hope you've fixed it all.
i also heard that this is refering to the 911 attack how they didn't pick it up before it happened. "new york city cops, they aint too smart" and so when it was released the record company didn't let the strokes put it out because it would be really offensive. But wouldn't explain the Nina part, so i dont know. Maybe they were just saying that the new york city cops arn't smart, and then it was taken personally because of the time..
a reflection of Casablancas' younger life...when he was forced to enter rehab at a young age, loathing his parents...his father more specifically and quite literally hating himself for hating someone who is trying to do something good for him

------ About the song Heart in a Cage performed by The Strokes
Easily the best song on impressions, followed by vision of division. Never really got into juicebox, but the album as a whole is quite good. Heart in a cage is bloody fantastic though.
I dont want want what you want,
I dont feel what you feel.
See I'm stuck in a city,
but I belong in a field.

------ About the song Hard To Explain performed by The Strokes
there are alot of diffrent genres of music that the strokes fall into and indie is one of them... so richard you are wrong about that im not trying to bash on the strokes and talk shit... i am a fan... all im trying to say is that there are always going to be people who argue with things they dont understand and what he is trying to do is get u pissed so you can waste your time telling him that hes wrong and thats what he wants just ignore him to the best of your ability and things will be fine.
ps... freedom of speech exists... dont mind critics they will always exist and theres nothing u can do.
this song is awsome | Reviewer: Carlos
------ About the song Clear Skies performed by The Strokes
The intro with the little piano melody gives the song like an oldies feeling to it. Its a little different than their usual stuff but it works its short with cool guitar solo and everything. The song is just thumbs up.

------ About the song Hard To Explain performed by The Strokes
the strokes are soooo indie and they are soooo good. in fact, they have been influential and inspired a whole army of a new generation of indie bands. and yes, there are other good indie bands. there were other good indie bands before them and after. if you dont like indie music that's fine, i love indie music and i think the strokes are fucking awesome.
I dont really know if they are getting back together , but they are my favorite band and always will be. I have heard some rumors of it but not sure . I am hoping soooooo hard cuz Julian Casablancas is the cutest guy that ive ever seen in my life so i just hope, they make awesome music and should still be doing it.

------ About the song What Ever Happened? performed by The Strokes
this couldn't better explain a guy who left me as well (he was "busy"). and when i was talking to my friend the other day about it she said, "What Ever Happened?" and it really triggered this song in my head and i realised how fitting it was.

------ About the song You Only Live Once performed by The Strokes
you guys need to relax. why did you look up the lyrics of this song? to leave your ignorant comments on whether or not you believe in god? my belief is that god exists and there are hundreds of religions to choose from to believe or not believe in him. the song is right, just be what you are. there is nothing wrong with this song. its just amazing. stop over analyzing everything sheesh.

------ About the song You Only Live Once performed by The Strokes
The lyrics are supposed to say
"and countless add religions, too"...not "and countless odd religions, too".
This is fact...how many religions are there??!! :D
I find it funny how so many people will analyze and break apart every little piece of such a beautiful song. We're not sitting here trying to convince each other if God is real or not. Let people believe what they want. We're all living on this world together whether we like it or not. The song is just trying to say..."live it up"! :)
