THE STATLERS have been known for many years as a group that
listeners can rely on for good, classic, down-home country
music. Their patented harmonies, good humor and keen
lyrical sense have highlighted countless hit songs over the
years, including "Bed of Rose's," "Pictures," "Do You
Remember These," "Class of 57," "Whatever Happened to
Randolph Scott," and seemingly countless others.
THE STATLERS PIONEERED the way for group performers in
country music. When The Statlers started out, the
prevailing wisdom was that groups simply could not make it
in country music. The best professional advice was all
negative. This was not what The Statlers' best instincts
told them, however; so they did everything themselves --
headlining, production, promotion -- up by their o More...

------ About the song More Than a Name on a Wall performed by The Statler Brothers
Was in the Marine Corps from 1971 - 1974. I knew many a guy who went to Viet Nam. This song tells the story of all of us who experienced the "after effect" of war. Tho I never experienced war (Women's Lib didn't come to the Marines till after Viet Nam) this song tells how everone who knew someone or lost someone in this war. I cry evertime I hear it and will always remember the faces.
About 15 years ago I was seriously dating a woman that I thought I would eventually marry. For some reason she got cold feet, and I was absolutely crushed and very depressed. I could not go more than an hour without thinking of her for many months. I was still TRULY in love with her. Knowing that she was not dating anyone; One night I copied down these lyrics and drove to her house and put them in the mailbox. 2 days later she showed up in my driveway. We were in heaven again!

------ About the song Do You Remember These performed by The Statler Brothers
Hi. This song recounts memories of the author from the 1940's and 50's. Kool-Aid has been around that long, however, there was in fact, a drink called TruAde popular during that time period. It came in grape and orange flavors. It is not mispronounced in the song.
Pegging your pants, (NOT eggs!!!) was done by folding over, then cuffing the bottoms of the pants legs so that they fit snuggly around the ankle. Popular in the 1950's, re-emerged in the 1980's.
The only "tabote" I can find is a place in Africa! Boat neck shirts are still worn today. Maybe they first appeared in the '40's or 50's.
If just need, or want, to be uplifted, and you have a recording of this song, just put it on, and sing along. If you are a Christian, you will be smiling by the end of the song, probably before it ends.
Only the most dedicated Statler fans remember "Woman Without A Home." It's not a song most people would ever associate with the group. I think it's one of the many forgotten special songs that the Statlers made even more special. The melody is beautiful, and the lyrical portrait of the woman's nature is very vivid. It's one of their many great songs that has been forgotten, due to their more spectacular big hits. But it shouldn't be.

It's GRAPE Kool-Aid. It's being mispronounced in the song. Grape Kool-Aid sold for about a nickel. You would rip the package open, wet your finger and stick it in the package and then lick it off your finger. It was the ultimate “sweet and sour” fix for a young kid. It was eventually replaced by Sweetarts. Grape Kool-Aid had a greater kick than any other flavor.
It’s EGG in your pants. You’d get a raw egg, sneak up behind someone in school and drop it down his pants, and then give him a swift kick in the butt.

Great Roger Miller tune. However the first line should read, "Trailers for sale or rent, rooms to LET fifty cents."
The word should be "let" as in "lease."

It's "tabote neck shirts" [as worn in the south by cajun Rock & Roll and jazz singers] "White Bucks" [Shoes] and "polock" jokes. Heck even the electric company pounds pole in the ground.
Is the soundtrack for The Other Side of the Cross available anywhere? I have looked the internet over, Statlers web etc. Please help in this. A truly beutiful song that must be shared.
I am trying to locate the Sheet Music of Other Side of the Cross for low voices. I loved the Statler's version of this song on Cathedrals Farewell DVD.

Im under 30 but I love this song. great tune. kurt vonnegut thinks it could replace the national anthem. which is a darn good review in my opinion!
I am watching the Farewell Cathedrals concert on DVD and thoroughly enjoyed the Statler Brothers performance. I have been a professional pianist for over 35 years and currently involved with 3 music groups. 2 of which involve Christian music. Country Gospel called the "Hillside Galileans" and the other The "Hillside Family Singers", singing traditional church hymns. "The Other Side of the Cross" is a great song. Where can I get the sheet music in 4 part harmony like the Statler's version?
Take care and God Bless

line 1: 1 thru 13 rymes better than fifteen, that's too long
Your Hit Parade with Snooky Lanson et cetera GRAPE KOOL-AID...............and peggin your pants (from zoot suits)
The Statler Brothers rendition of this song is one of hte toe tappinest I've heard in years. Harold's deep Bass Voice is a welcome change from a lot of high pitched versions is a delight. He obviously has a lot of fun with it. That's the key to good music. Is the performer having fun doing it. These guys were always having fun. God Bless 'Em.
