The Smallprint Lyrics - Muse

Review The Song (9)

Take, take all you need,
And I'll compensate your greed
With broken hearts
Sell, I'll sell your memories
For 15 pounds per year
But just the good days

Say, it'll make you insane
And it's bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
But I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid

Hope, I hope you've seen the lie
'Cause no one really cares
sponsored links
They're just pretending
Sell, I'll sell your memories
For 15 pounds per year
But you can keep the bad days

Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid

Say, it'll make you insane
And I'm bending the truth
You're to blame
For all the life that you'll lose and
You watch this space
And I'm going all the way
And be my slave to the grave
I'm the priest God never paid

Bible my arse... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/24/14

Matt initially wrote a very pretty, happy album all about love. Hence the title, absolution, he thought this relationship saved him and absolved him of all his previous wrongs in relationships. She cheated on him and he scrapped the album and wrote a really fucking angry one instead and couldn't bare to change the name

Haha... the ablum 'absolution' was about lost love and or how it hurts to be let down! It has nothing to do with god apart from this one line 'I'm the priest God never paid' which is an expression meaning devoting you life to someone you care about just to be let down! Simples!!

first of all, all art is subject to different interpretations and everyone's point is valid.

My interpretation comes from a biblical point of view. I see this as a song of Satan and his hatred for man kind.
We have made a choice to believe in the truth or believe the lie, which is the contract Satan has drawn out for us hence the title THE SMALL PRINT. Satan encourages us to feed our egos and our self worth with meaningless things which we lust for with greed, TAKE, TAKE ALL YOU NEED AND I WILL COMPENSATE YOUR GREED WITH BROKEN HEARTS. You will never get anything good from what satan has to offer.
The bible says John 10:10
The thief (thats satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. Satan robs you of all the good things in life although because he is the master deceiver you don't realise your being robed. SELL, I SELL YOUR MEMORIES FOR 15 POUNDS PER YEAR BUT JUST THE GOOD DAYS.
Satan will do anything to destroy you, he would drive you insane with guilt, he is the accuser (Rev 12.10). IT WILL MAKE YOU INSANE and YOUR TO BLAME FOR ALL THE LIFE THAT YOU'RE LOSING.
Satan is the father of lies the master deceiver who comes as an angel of light (2cor 11.14 and john 8.44). What is the best way to lie? It is to tell the truth with only a small nougat of deceit which is what satan does best, AND IM BENDING THE TRUTH the result of swallowing his lie is death (of the soul) BE MY SLAVE TO THE GRAVE (rom 6.16)
Now finally I'M A PRIEST GOD NEVER PAID Lucifer (satan) was the most beautiful and the most highest of angels in the angelic realm (not THE MOST HIGH) he tried everything to persuade God not to create man God ignored him and he became jealous of mankind as if man was way of demoting him. he even went after man to prove his point (the fall of adam and eve)

so there you have it THE SMALL PRINT of satan's deceitful contract

sorry for my essay lol

overlooking something... | Reviewer: Goethe | 8/1/10

all of these comments so far are reading to deeply, the song is less general than you make it out to be. It's actually just describing the legend of Faust from the perspective of Mephistopheles, the devil. though I'm sure the majority of our generation who listen to this have never even heard of Faust, Muse has cited the legend as the direct influence of this song. I suggest you people read it, there are several versions though I prefer Goethe's and there are a few really good translations of it available.

great song. The reference to greed and small print can be applied to lawyers etc but it's more about a contract or selling your soul to the devil i think (slave to the grave, priest god never paid).

I think the song is refering to the small print in contracts. If you don't read it carefully, then you could throw your life away. The lawyers and business men who make you sign them "bend the truth" for you to be just like their personal slave. That's my interpretation at least...

media | Reviewer: ... | 7/1/08

well i always thought this song was about the media, and how they twist stories and lie
"say, it'll make you insane, and I'm bending the truth" that along with the line "and ill sell your memories, for 15 pounds per year" give me the thought about the media.. makes sense to me

I aswell have trouble understanding this....but i know there is a meaning and if I kept looking id find it....man i love all their songs

What is this about? I dont understand much of whats going on in the song. But befor i go find out. just like to say that regardless of lyrical inginuity, the song rocks. i mean, i dare to say it could rock your socks off.
