The Sisters Of Mercy are formed in Leeds by Gary Marx and
Andrew Eldritch. (Click here for some background.) With one
guitar, a three-watt practice amp and no money, they record
a single "to hear ourselves on the radio". The Merciful
Release label is founded to issue it and one thousand
copies are pressed. The record gets played on the radio.
Described by the band as "unobtainable and even more
unlistenable", 'THE DAMAGE DONE / WATCH / HOME OF THE
HIT-MEN' is now worth hundreds of pounds - and it's still
rubbish.
1981
Sensing that something horribly huge is within their grasp,
the duo decides to "start again, properly". Andrew
Eldritch, by his own admission "a very bad drummer",
becomes by default the band's lead More...

I can't tell you how it's beyond the point of laughable to think that who ever is the owner of this lyric site credits Sister of mercy for my song CRY LITTLE SISTER has not owned up to being responsible to correct the LEGAL credited song writer ME- Gerard McMann aka G Tom Mac.
A new law comes into play in 2010 that will have this site taken down & you who are responsible held accountable in legal terms. Just plain old being responsible & now justice,

------ About the song Marian performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
"Sorry to say a song is not only the music."
You know, that would be a very valid statement... IF I wouldn't be responding to the statement that Eldrich was a fine songwriter and then instantly praising the song MUSICALLY, like he wrote the damn song! Do the next guy you respond to a favor and read his comment carefully.
And another thing, music is first and formost MUSIC, and that is something Hussey is ingenious at.

------ About the song Marian performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
The music for Marian was written by Wayne Hussey from the Mission, not Andrew Eldritch. And with that I'll add to you statement, "WAYNE HUSSEY WAS THE FINNEST SONGWRITERS OF HIS GENERATION", and still is nothing less of a musical genious. Personally, I'm glad he left Sisters and got his creative freedom with the Mission
Sorry to say a song is not only the music. Hussey can make great melodies, but is hopeless giving them proper and intelligent lyrics. Eldritch is near to poetry, while Hussey is near to poverty in that field. I am personally glad Eldritch left behind the goth era and became hard rock. The new songs like Crash & Burn, Suzanne, Slept, Arms... are simply perfect.

------ About the song Cry Little Sister performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
I would like anyone out there in the world to prove to me indisputably that Andrew Eldritch ever took credit for the song "Cry Little Sister". I have seen numerous music websites that list the Sisters of Mercy as the artist, but of course the song itself is sung by G Tom Mac. Yes, i agree, mistakes like this shouldn't happen, but they do. I am a die hard fan of the Sisters and they have never, according to any reliable source in the world or on the internet, even covered "cry little sister", which really is an amazing song that takes me back to my younger years in the 80's. Gerard McMann deserves any and all success he earns as an artist, but please, it's ridiculous how many forums there are where people are ignorant of the facts regarding the mix up. Stop improperly giving the Sisters the credit for this song and please, for god's sake, don't start listening to the Sisters of Mercy because you ignorantly believed the song was theirs. It's a terrible way to take a liking to any musician. Of course Gerard is probably angry(an assumption), i would be to.

I don't know if that was the real Gerard McMann, but dude, this is a cover. I know you know what that is. Sisters of Mercy covered your song. So did Blutengel and Carfax Abbey. Mostly they were good covers. I imagine you even got paid for it if you did your due diligence in securing the rights and so forth.
And BTW, somebody is killing all the versions of your song on MySpace, except your official one which is only a minute long. Dude, if I were you, I would want EVERYONE playing that song. I'd GIVE it away. Instead of giving everyone the impression that you're on some kind of Metallica trip or something, like you're broke and you need the money.

------ About the song Cry Little Sister performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
i like sisters of mercy, they have gotten credit for this song for years,i recently saw this g tom guy singing with corey haim, and his "new" album is called "thou shall no fall" get over it g tom, move on, look at the future instead of putting new versions of cry little sister on every album you make.Nobody knew you sang it,or if you did, the google machine has been saying it was SOM for years.I don't care, its a good song, but Aiden also did a cover, and i don't think that 20+ years from now, they will be claiming it as their own,and still re-recording it,the way you are G TOM MAC!If its your song, then cool, why are you still klinging to it,write some new gothy-goddy for us to enjoy.!!!
I have been a fan of the Sisters for over fifteen years. Andrew is still able to bring tears to my eyes. I am aware of how elusive they are, always so private. Thankyou for sharing some history, I would love to hear whats going on now, If you do know please feel free to email or myspace me. sincerely Kelly Lyons

------ About the song Marian performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
Hello.
My name is Thomas Drewsen, I'm hoping to form a sisters of mercy jam band somewhere in a not too far future. I was checking out sisters-lyrics when I stumbled upon this page.
Let me just 'begin' with saying that this is gonna be a rather looong review - I find it hard to keep things simple! (so anyone who feels like checking out now should seriously do it! (smiley))
I share a love for the sisters of mercy with future sisters-band mate Jacob Schausen (we're both from Denmark) - and we particularly love the song 'Heartland' (from 'some girls wander by mistake'), and we both find 'first and last and always' to be their (his) best album. We both slightly dislike (yet still like of course) 'Floodland' for it's pop-sound (think I read somewhere that 'This corrosion' was a club-hit). I personally prefer the 'Vision thing' album to 'floodland' - some great stuff there, incl. the title song, 'vision thing' (although it gets you thinking about ZZ Top doesn't it (nothing too wrong about ol' ZZ, though)?), and also a great song like 'Ribbons' and the haunting 'something Fast'.
Anyway! 'back' to 'Marian', the song in question here (sorryyyy):
It's one of my five favourites from the 'first and last and always' album, which include in chronological order:
'black planet', 'marian', 'first and last and always',
'nine while nine', and 'some kind of stranger'. I would probably personally rank them as follows:
1. 'some kind of stranger'
2. 'first and last and always'
3. 'nine while nine'
4./5. then I dunno whether to put 'marian' or 'black planet' in the fourth place.
so 'marian' is not my favourite song of the album, but still far superior to much of the stuff on 'floodland' ('popland', heehee! One 'floódland' favourite of mine, though, is 'driven like the snow' in which Eldritch sings one or two lines from 'nine while nine'. And also I find it hard to truly dislike songs like 'this corrosion' and 'lucretia')
So, now, I've dunnit! I've written several thousand words about 'marian' but limited the space actually spend on a 'marian' review to next to nothing. The things is, though, that I find it so interesting to speak about one of my alltime favourite bands, and thereby to limit my words.
If anyone actually had the patience to listen to me babbling, I would be truly honoured to hear from you on this page!
Eldritch forever!!!

First and Last and Always | Reviewer: Alex Ede
------ About the song Body and Soul performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
Body and Soul along with Train,Body electric and Afterhours compound the 4 track-EP launched in 1984, a year or so before First and Last and Always could be released.
Here,Andrew's creativity at composing lyrics and majestic lead singing in alliance with Wayne's psychedelic guitar, Craig Adam's bass and the fantastic electronic drums called Dr Avalanche were on their best.
The excellence achieved at this period has no comparison to what has later become the new sisters of mercy without Wayne and Craig.
The idea of the mysterious, sacred and mundane, the dark veils being unveiled through the unmistakable unique upbeat gothic can only be heard again with the same geniality through the sounds of their offspring "The Mission UK".

not only is the song accredidation wrong, the lyrics are wrong too...all I know is that it's thou shalt not fall, thou shalt not die, thou shalt not fear thou shalt not kill...wow....this song is awesome...I'm sad that there are people who don't like it, but then again, there are some people who thing it's a bad idea for everyone to have health care...

------ About the song Marian performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
a time of dark splendour in my life. for a few months i lived through a period of sparkling blackness to which this song takes me back every time i listen. eldritch was such a class act. remember him in his bone-white suit on totp singing 'dominion'? glorious.
meanwhile the mission were flouncing around in sad pseudo-gothadelic purple and black - talk about mac-goth.
i miss you som. so much has been exposed as cheesy and silly by time and reality, but not _you_.

------ About the song Cry Little Sister performed by The Sisters Of Mercy
Could you please attribute lyrics to the correct artist please! This is NOT a SOM song. It is by Gerard McMann aka G Tom Mac. I feel enough people have now said this for it to be changed. Please now FIX YOUR ERROR!!!
One of the catchier tunes by this essential goth rock band. I love the dark and sinister story of an elusive heartbreaker. The song makes me think of two things; a vampire and a heartbreaker. Who knows, it could be both: a vampire heartbreaker! It seems as though there is passion between the lovers when they are together. Yet as the title of the song suggests, that all changes when they are apart. He claims to "disappear" which leaves the listener to decide if he means that literally or figuratively in the sense that there are no monogamous ties holding them together (Out of sight out of mind). There also seems to be an innocence, or maybe just ignorance on the part of his lover, as if she doesn't realize that she is not the "only one." The mask is a widely used symbol for personality, the face we put on to show the world, or in this case the one he puts on for her. This suggests two things; 1 that he is merely playing a part for her and 2 that he is completely different when she's gone. Kind of a ruthless way to play the game, but not too uncommon in the dating world I think. I love how this song songs good on any level. One can take it lightly and just enjoy the rocking guitar riff (a la Billy Idol) and one can also delve into the psychological meanings that may or may not be hidden in these words. Regardless, Ithink it is a great song and Ilisten to it a lot. My band, Stellar Corpses is working on a psychobilly/ punkrock version of it.

Are you sure they are taking credit, as someone said Andrew E would feel sick if he knew that this CRAP is being attributed to SOM. Who is Gerard McMann anyway (sic). You must be a pretty damn good dj if you never eard of SOM.
