The Serpentine Offering Lyrics - Dimmu Borgir

Review The Song (6)

My descent is the story of everyman
I am hatred, darkness and despair
My descent is the story of everyman
I am hatred, darkness and despair

Evoked and entertained through centuries
Wrathful and sullen--dormant still

The ferocity pervades everywhere
Waiting to be released at last
Hear my offering
Ye bastard sons and daughters
Share my sacrifice
Share my sacrifice

My descent is the story of everyman
I am hatred, darkness and despair
My descent is the story of everyman
I am hatred, darkness and despair

Reconcile not with the fear of the snake
But embrace it as your own
Inject its venom into your veins
And replant the seed that gives growth
Still shrouded in mystery
Until you arise above perception
A veil of ignorance is emotion
Continuing throughout generations

The snake is notoriously tempting
But the snake is fair
What is worse than not knowing?
To live or disappear?

The ferocity pervades everywhere
Waiting to be released at last
Hear my offering
Ye bastard sons and daughters
Share my sacrifice

Instrumentally & Lyrically astonishing | Reviewer: Shaun | 2/14/13

This song is one of my favorite new style Dimmu songs,
lyrically its intense and to some may be scary because of the satanic vibe it gives but what dimmu songs isnt some what in that vibe but overall the lyrics are very powerful and interesting the video to this helps understand it the instruments are just amazing the way they constructed this song is just amazing but if you arnt into black metal its a good thing to stay away from especially if you're religious it might agrevate someone.

The song and video | Reviewer: Talos | 1/19/11

First the song is obviously about how humanity strained from god. Dimmu's argument is that maybe the snake leading man away from god was a good thing and we should embrace it. For the video the knights in white armor are Tuetonic Knights. The video in my mind is a recreation of the war of conquest of Lithuania by the order.

Great Song | Reviewer: J.Rock | 10/6/10

A hint of satanism? Oh, it is much more then a hint. This song is completely satanic. What would you expect from an album titled "In Sorte Diaboli"? (In direct contact with satan) All around fantastic song. Very powerful riffs and drums. The lyrics are magnificent and the vocals are amazing. Songs like these make you realize why Dimmu Borgir is such a great band.

Nice | Reviewer: Rap Lover | 7/13/10

Well i am back with this song. Hmm lets see, the beginning is hardcore starting with the horns, then a dramtic change to a constant barrage drums. Next we have the lyrics. Very nice but the best part is the switch to a Glam metal part which I have to admit is pretty intense. The closing part is as inyense as the beggining. Well i had to say those things cause they were important.

Usually I try to stay away from black metal, but in this song's case I made an exception. The whole sound to the song is so captivating; the awesome dark beginning to the heavy riffs later on.

Lyrically very well written, very well indeed. Definitely give this song a try (you propably have, that's why you're on this site), but stay away if a hint of Satanism puts you off. It is black metal after all.

awesome song | Reviewer: jeremy | 11/13/07

awesome song...love the video as well
the mideval warrior stuff...love the whole dark/mideval war theme of the song....and much credit for making a real video instead of just a video of them performing the song
