Five For Fighting The Riddle (You and I) Lyrics

Last updated: 01/13/2010 10:00:00 AM

There was a man back in '95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
Wait, what's the sense in life
Come over me, Come over me

He said,

"Son why you got to sing that tune
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see... You will see."

Then he said,

"Here's a riddle for yah
Find the Answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I..."

Picked up my kid from school today
Did you learn anything 'cause in in the world today
You can't live in a castle far away
Now talk to me, come talk to me

He said,

"Dad I'm big but we're smaller than small
In the scheme of things, well we're nothing at all
Still every mother's child sings a lonely song
So play with me, come play with me"

And Hey Dad
Here's a riddle for yah
Find the Answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I...

I said,

"Son for all I've told yah
When you get right down to the
Reason for the world...
Who am I?"

There are secrets that we still have left to find
There have been mysteries from the beginning of time
There are answers we're not wise enough to see

He said... You looking for a clue I Love You free...

The batter swings and the summer flies
As I look into my angel's eyes
A song plays on while the moon is high over me
Something comes over me

I guess we're big and I guess we're small
If you think about it man you know we got it all
Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball
And I love you free
I love you freely

Here's a riddle for yah
Find the Answer
There's a reason for the world
You and I...

"The answer to "the Riddle" is You and I | Reviewer: Jack Shepperd | 1/13/10

This is in my humble opinion, the gr8est song ever written about love, truth, and the meaning of life. It starts off most poigniently, "There was a man back in '95 whose heart ran out of summers but b4 he died.." which establishes a tone, and immediately, universal captures the listener.
The "answer" to the riddle is this. There are big questions, mysteries, issues in life to be dealt with daily. And endless distractions from that love that is there in your life, your heart. When you've found that point in your life where there is doubt, frustation, resentment, confusion, etc. or simply a quiet time that you wonder "why am I here? What am I supposed to do now, or next? The answer is clearly stated in the second verse... "Don't worry about anything complicated at all... take in the NOW, this moment, and that's where the answer is... to whatever the question you're asking. The answer is YOU and I, right now... the stars and the universe were created just for the two of you, for that moment to share, and to love each other for. Don't miss that moment to play in the park with your kid. Shut off the ball game, get up out of your chair and go give your wife a hug. Ask your Dad or Mom that big question you've always wanted to ask. Cherish that special moment that the whole universe has just aligned itself for you, and jump at your chance to LOVE. It's all been done for You... right now. Pick up the phone, call a friend... ask that girl you been afraid to ask out for a date to meet you for a coffee... follow through. "Catch a Dylan song or an eclipse of the moon... let an angel swing and make you swoon. Then you will see.

Shouldn't it be:
Did you learn anything? 'Cause in the world today, you.......

Still every mother's child seems to know this song. So......
