The Part That Hurts The Most (Is Me) Lyrics - Thousand Foot Krutch

Review The Song (1)

Everyday I get a little closer
And everything I'm made off starts to melt away
I see the signs but I can't quite make the words out
All I want is to be near you but I push you away

I just wanna get away but I hurt you everyday
(The part that hurts the most)
The part that hurts the most (is me)
The most (is you)
It's everything I do without you

The part that hurts the most (is me)
The most (is you)
It's everything I do without you

Every chance I get I'm moving closer
I know I'm not supposed to but I can't break away
I see the signs but I can't quite make the words out
All I want is to be near you but I push you away

I hate talking about it
Try to lose it but in stead I found it
I want you to know I couldn't love any one more

No!
Stay away from me (Get up)
No!
Stay away from me (Get up)
I turn and walk away, I just won't let her
No!

God or Loved One? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/15/10

There are a few different theories on what this song is actually about. The two that seem most likely are that "the most" is either God or someone loved by the vocalist.

If it is about God, then clearly this person wants to get closer to God, but feels like he's pushing him away every time he studies more (perhaps progressing in science, disproving a god?). He feels like he is the part that hurts the most in himself, and that he hurts God when doing this. Throughout the song, he sees signs but can't quite understand what they mean, or even begin to. In the section "No! Stay away from me", this could be talking to his former self or indeed God, as he is doubting his faith. It also shows in the bridge he hates talking about it, and is trying to lose these theories of no God. "I hate talking about it, tried to lose it but instead I found it"

If the song is talking about a loved one, it's a similar concept. The person in the song isn't sure if the person likes him much, and feels like he's hurting her, especially when he's away from her. He feels like he shouldn't be getting closer, but does. In the bridge, this could show him telling her how he feels, and that he tried to lose these nervous feelings but failed. When the verse "No! Stay away from me (Get up), I'm trying to walk away it just won't let up", he is most likely trying to run away from his fear of hurting her, but he still hurts.
