Loreena McKennitt The Mystic's Dream Lyrics

Last updated: 07/12/2014 06:08:23 PM

A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is longing for
All for the love of you

A painting hangs on an ivy wall
Nestled in the emerald moss
The eyes declare a truce of trust
And then it draws me far away
Where deep in the desert twilight
Sand melts in pools of the sky
When darkness lays her crimson cloak
Your lamps will call, call me home.

And so it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night
And now I feel, feel you move
Every breath is full
So it's there my homage's due
Clutched by the still of the night
Even the distance feels so near
All for the love of you.

A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
Birds in flight are calling there
Where the heart moves the stones
It's there that my heart is longing for
All for the love of you.

Magickal | Reviewer: Jill H | 4/21/14

Like another person here, I first heard this song in the movie Mists of Avalon. I immediately perked up and sat almost entranced until the end of the song. I didn't even wait until the end of the movie to look it up on the internet. I do like other songs by Loreena but this song truly touches me and makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger and ancient. I cannot say that for any other song I've ever heard.

Deep magical wisdom beyond times | Reviewer: Natascha | 7/6/13

When singing this song, I always find myself crying from a certain point. Strangely, this crying does not affect my singing, to the contrary, it brings out a melody from deep inside of me of which I did not even have an idea it might be hidden there. I am not a great singer - only do it for my own joy - but the voice that comes out of my mouth then is truly beautiful, magical. I am not even sure if it is my own one. I cannot fully tell what this masterpiece ist, but I could imagine that it connects us to a very old form of female goddess energy, which is now about to come back to earth in full power. And this is done through (amongst others)the opening of our hearts while feeling this song. And just for the records: there is of course a female goddess in each soul having chosen a male body for their present incarnation as well, you know that, don't you :-)

inspirational and divine | Reviewer: anomynous | 12/6/11

There is something truly divine in this piece, and it moves through me every time I hear it. I tend to listen to the melodies of every song, however, and even then it inspires my creative writings. When I listen and close my eyes, I not only witness olden times, I see the dawn of time, the creation of all. I'd like to hear more pieces and be taken for another trip through my imagination to see what I should write next. ;-)

Inspirational, amazing | Reviewer: Megan | 4/19/11

The words have not been created to describe this song. It is absolutely amazing. So soothing, yet it reaches inside and grabs a hold of something. Impossible to listen to it just once. Extremely spiritual, perfect for meditation.

Speechless | Reviewer: anastasia | 3/23/11

Whenever i listen to this song i become mesmerized. I've read some of the reviews here and i cant really say anything new, except that not only does this song give me inspiration and peace of mind, but i meditate to this song everyday. For some this song takes them to Arabia, but me, it takes me deep into ancient egypt. You cannot just listen to this song once. Loreena has really outdone herself here. It's breathtaking.

A Source of Inspiration | Reviewer: Artemis | 9/22/10

I love this song. I discovered the music of Loreena McKinnett sometime in the late 90's. Since then I have been a big fan of hers. Next to "All Souls Night" "The Mystics Dream" is my favorite piece. As a working stage illusionist and mentalist, this song, "The Mystic's Dream" served as the inspiration for my latest show and it is one of the songs featured in the show. It serves as the backdrop for the Mystic's Box illusion. This song just takes me away to 9th century Arabia, to the streets of Damascus, utterly enchanting.

Ethereal Inspiration | Reviewer: Jo Alexander | 9/3/10

When I listen to The Mystic's Dream it takes me to an expanded dimension of creativity. It has the ability to totally absorb you in it, or it in you and touches my core at such a deep ancient level that the outside world just melts away. For me, a 'reconnection' occurs allowing me to receive inspiration from sources beyond our material world. I know it sounds a bit 'out there' but I can't describe it any other way right now. It captivates me time and time again.

A magical song | Reviewer: Old WV Nurse | 7/8/10

Breath taking. | Reviewer: Samantha Stanley | 6/1/10

I first came across this song while trying to find something to use for my english project, and was instantly captivated. Truly a beautifully written piece of music. It makes me want to go deep into the woods and become one with the earth.

Review - T he Mystic's Dream | Reviewer: Phaeisa al'Hadin | 3/18/10

Everytime I hear the song, I close my eyes and I am transported back in time. I see the lords and ladies of old, and even at times to the far east where I see the tents gathering around the oasis. Very beautiful, so romantic in it's own rights. It puts one's soul to ease after a long hard day.

magical! | Reviewer: poison_ivy | 2/10/10

The first time I heard the song I couldn't move until it's very end- it ensnared me, just like magic- the amazing drum motives remind me of ritual drums and the lyrics are amazingly allegoric and symbolical. and the voice is the most magical thing about it, because even the most powerful incantation doesn't work without the proper voice to sing it to the world...

a true work of art | Reviewer: Chris A. | 7/10/09

I love the droning pedal tone that goes through the entire work. It is a technique that I have been using for about twenty years in my own works, but I wish that I had used it so elegantly. Although the song is beautiful and colorful, it has a wonderful uneasiness to it, with a relentless rhythm. It give me a feeling that I cannot describe, I just love it.

Transcendental | Reviewer: Farooq Ahmad | 2/21/09

All the European myths/legends/fables, take it from the coming of Anglo-Saxons, Celtic prides or the development of Medieval and Renaissance eras are garnished into this one beautiful song, nay, a piece of art I may say. It has enchanted me and I feel like visiting a festival around the ancient stone-henge whenever I listen to it. The inclusion of Arabic instruments only makes it better, like a merger of different traditions from around the world in an ancient trade route located in a dark-age Celtic town. A masterpiece indeed !
