Straight outta Oakland, the Matches set the California
music scene on fire last year thanks to twelve explosive,
hook-injected songs recorded on the cheap in their
basements and living rooms. Coupled with an unstoppable
work ethic that included the band's very own "Commotion
Promotion" tactics, buzz on the quartet's self-released
debut E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals and the live shows that
supported it spread like a virus to music enthusiasts up
and down the Golden State and, as they toured small venues
relentlessly, across the country.
Despite the ensuing hype that landed the interest of
numerous label A&R execs, the truth is that the Matches
wouldn't be shit w More...

i love this song!!! It's my favorite off of Decomposer. It just explains how all the punks and goths of the world(no emos, they're stupid, mindless wannabes) feel when they go to a show. it's awesome!!!!XDXDXD

I first heard it in the background whilst on msn. I found myself humming along before I even noticed how fantastic it was. Everything about it. The music, the voice, the filmclip, and, GOD, the lyrics O.O
FANTASTIC.
RE: SHHH
I agree. Bands that are "unknown" are better anyway ^.^
I just love this song. For me, it's all about longing and being alone when you want to be with someone else. It's about anticipation and feeling anxious and needy, feeling like you love someone more than they love you. It's an awesome song, the vocals are just amazing, so many contrasts, so much imagination... And the guitar isn't bad at all. An excellent song, so go listen to it. Now xD

This one, all I wanna do is dance around in a fancy pinstripe hat like a nerd.=^] It's great.
Seriously- FANTASTIC album. BEST if you have a hard copy in a stereo. The computer just can't put off how amazing the songs are.

yes it does indeed.. just one of the many little gems that the matches have hidden for us to uncover.. in many ways, like the masons. they hide me clues everywhere!! seriously i was walking down the street and saw a place called proctor house.. it freaked me out a little. the lyrics are from tht old nursery ryhme something like there was a boy called michael finnagin, but in reverse. emphasising the idea of repetition& the word again

------ About the song Scratched Out (Track 11) performed by The Matches
This song just makes you smile no matter what mood you're in. It's comedic, and the way the vocals sound to stress it to make it sound like reality, like it's happening right now, or even happened a little while ago, it doesnt matter, it still can cheer you up no matter what.

------ About the song Salty Eyes performed by The Matches
I've always been a fan of this song, but truely fell in love with it when I saw The Matches play it.
Everybody there knew all the words, & we sang it loudly as possible.
It was then I found a new meaning to the song. Like even though you feel alone in this world, you still belong. Everyone singing that song proudly that night all 'belonged' to that song. We all came together, as strangers, and belted that song. Argh, amazing.
This song has completely changed my views on things.
The Matches are very underrated. I don't know how they aren't mega superstars.
But then again, I like having bands that not many know about.

To me, the line:
When you belong to a song, you belong
really if the writer saying 'i wrote you this song an its all about you and now you belong here in this song, even if you don't think you belong here anymore, you do." I think the writer is trying to save them.

------ About the song Salty Eyes performed by The Matches
The poem seemed to be about someone going through a depression...
Seeing the reference to drunkenness, how there was a love that didn't exactly go right, and the overall viewpoint which is trying to stay positive.
When I hear this song, I think:
Okay, someone has a screwed up love life (they were dumped by someone they really, really loved) and then turns to drinking and starts spiraling into depression.
Then the one singing the song comes in and tells the subject person to not give up, and get on with life and be happy.
The "When you belong to a song," pretty much means that you need to live your own life and live by your own tune, and "salty eyes" refers to crying.
I think it's quite an inspirational song.
I love the marching band/ circus like music to it. The first time I heard this song, the music caught my attention immediately and I've been hooked on this song ever sense.

Especially to this song.
Not because it is a cool song to sing to, blah blah blah, but because it is an inspiring song.
I have it on my myspace and my friend who had never even heard of the matches loved it.
Not only is the song flowing and the instrumentals fabulous, but the meaning behind all the lines if great.
It is inspires me. This is my new 'get happy emma! gosh darn get happy!' song. It used to be 'Don't Give Up' by The Noisettes and 'Reach for the Sun' by Polyphonic Spree.
Thanks Matches for giving me hope for all the terrible music out there. Maybe one day all music will be as thoughtful and amazing as this.

I saw The Matches at WARPED Tour, they were amazing live.
But I was actually looking for a review on this band. Not just some people saying they're hot or that they think they are an amazing band. So if someone could post an actual review, that would be nice.
