The Magnetic Fields are the music of songwriter-
producer-instrumentalist Stephin Merritt, who lives and
records in New York City. Adept at computer music
programming and production, Merritt records his own albums
and plays almost everything on them with help from cellist
Sam Davol, banjo player/second guitarist John Woo, and
percussionist/pianist Claudia Gonson.

Merritt's first two CD's, "The Wayward Bus" and "Distant
Plastic Trees", came out in 1991 and 1992 with singer Susan
Anway, formerly of the early 80's Boston punk band "V." The
album included the early-90's college radio single,"100,000
Fireflies," which first appeared as a single on Harriet
Records.

When Susan Anway decided to relocate to Arizona, Stephin
Merritt took up the vocal duties and remain More...

------ About the song 100,000 Fireflies performed by The Magnetic Fields

One of my favourite songs (along with 'Strange Powers' and 'If You Don't Cry') by my favourite band. The 'as they ricochet round the room' bit is perhaps the most sublime moment in pop music history :)

    Profoundly Moving | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song I'm Sorry I Love You performed by The Magnetic Fields

I'm sorry, i love you.. is one of my favorite korean dramas...every charactr's emotions were immortalized with such rending passion...deep, rending but very substantial...it's a moving peice...one you wont forget once you've watched it...

this just plainly sucks and pure heart is out of his mind | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song 100,000 Fireflies performed by The Magnetic Fields

this is the worst song i have ever seen in my life. the only reason i even looked this crap up is because i am doing a essay on daniel handler which used to be in this horrible band i hope this band doesnt exist anymore because if it does then it really needs to die

Well as for me this is just a good song, one that is nice to hear in a car while driving tae work, ken. This sortay thing pure winds me doon if ye catch my drift. Well written lyrics, quite funny likes, performed technically speaking flawless and sung by a guy wi a good voice, why want more?

    Ridiculously Romantic! | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song When My Boy Walks Down the Street performed by The Magnetic Fields

This song just touches the heart. It's simple but intelligent, fresh innocent and romantic. It's played in the background as Justin is walking toward Brian in Season 2 of tv's "Queer as Folk". It's difficult for him because he's been bashed in a hate- crime and hasn't fully regained his balance. The song is a window into Brian's heart and fully explains his deep love for and pride in Justin who keeps persevering with a smile and "blue eyes blazing". Brian would say it's "ridiculously romantic"!

------ About the song I Thought You Were My Boyfriend performed by The Magnetic Fields

The funny part is that most of the Magnetic Fields songs are about gay relationships, which tend to climax to the L word and end much quicker than straight or lesbian relationships. The hard part is finding a magnetic fields song that is from the perspective of the offender that says something like "I'm sorry"...

Pass with Merritt. (You love it.) | Reviewer: James Reid
------ About the song Busby Berkeley Dreams performed by The Magnetic Fields

This song is one of the highlights on 69 Love Songs, and the imagery, for me, really can't get any more Stephin Merritt. A crowning achievement both lyrically and musically.

I really thought you were my boyfriend. | Reviewer: Julie.
------ About the song I Thought You Were My Boyfriend performed by The Magnetic Fields

This song reminds me of what I'm going through. I feel so deceived right now because I really felt that it would last. This song really perks me up, however, since it's so up-beat yet melancholic.
Magnetic Fields really helps me recover from disappointing relationships maybe because he makes love sound so ironic and twisted. Who really wants to get involved in it?

    so nice | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side performed by The Magnetic Fields

The song makes me smile and dance when ever I hear it. You sing along to the sweet lyrics, and feel young doing so.

Ruth's favorite song | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song Reno Dakota performed by The Magnetic Fields

The first time my 4 year old heard this song she asked me, "Momma, who is this?" I told her and she said "This is my favorite song". Now she makes me play it over and over and she knows all the words and sings along.
You'd think I'd hate by now, but I love it that much more. It is the cutest damn thing to hear her sing it. I just say "he's just a bore" in place of the whore part, but other than that, when she belts out the end, I laugh every time.
All in all. It's a damn good song for the whole family ;)

    pure heart | Reviewer: mindy

Grown on me | Reviewer: Anna
------ About the song Reno Dakota performed by The Magnetic Fields

The first time I heard this song, I thought "You've got to be kidding me, this is so childish. The words aren't clever, the melody's ... not even a melody." But after a few listens, I realized that this song is actually some kind of crazy cute genius. Like a lot of Magnetic Fields songs, the words are so simple yet so packed, as is the melody. Oh Magnetic Fields. You've done it again. <3

    MAGNIFICENT | Reviewer: Rocky Navea
------ About the song I'm Sorry I Love You performed by The Magnetic Fields

I never had experience watching a foreign drama. I'm sorry I love you truly catched my heart. It is view here in Vancouver Canada five days a week, 30 minutes a day. If i am not at home, i record the show so i can watch it when i get home. It feels me so young about the story. It is also full of exciting scenes like loving the characters, hatred, in-love. I am wishing to have this copy in DVD. More power to the casts and the director.

    Heavenly..! | Reviewer: NewmaN
------ About the song The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side performed by The Magnetic Fields

This is one of those songs that make you smile and feel really happy. Especially that reggae-feel, that reminds me of an old Lee Perry production; "Conscious Man" by The Jolly Brothers. It's pure genious how Merritt turns this classically structured popsong into a dazzling and brilliantly produced masterpiece.

    Aww.. | Reviewer: Holly
------ About the song I Don't Believe You performed by The Magnetic Fields

This song is so sweet. It has a very nice melody and is catchy. I love it. But I bet you don't believe me ;-)

The Past Summer | Reviewer: Jacki
------ About the song Let's Pretend We're Bunny Rabbits performed by The Magnetic Fields

This song will forever be one of my favorites because even though this past summer has been one hectic summer, I've learned many lessons and through it all this song has got to be the first to stick out in my mind. It reminds me so much of everything that's gone on...not the lyrics but just the mental notation of listening to this song.

a brilliant song | Reviewer: johann
------ About the song I Don't Believe You performed by The Magnetic Fields

That's it; this is a wonderful song that is clever and charming. And creative use of punctuation.
