The Kids Aren't Alright Lyrics - Offspring

Review The Song (110)

When we were young the future was so bright
The old neighborhood was so alive
And every kid on the whole damn street
Was gonna make it big and not be beat

Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn
The kids are grown up but their lives are worn
How can one little street
Swallow so many lives

[Chorus]
Chances thrown
Nothing's free
Longing for what used to be
Still it's hard
Hard to see
Fragile lives, shattered dreams

Jamie had a chance, well she really did
sponsored links
Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids
Mark still lives at home cause he's got no job
He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot

Jay committed suicide
Brandon OD'd and died
What the hell is going on
The cruelest dream, reality

[Chorus x2]

Such an Awesome song. | Reviewer: Dulce | 4/20/12

Stoked. The first time I saw the music video, I felt in love with the song. And I can really relate to it. 1998, I was 14 and a fan. <3 Now, am old and still their fan. I love The Offspring!
Thanx for sticking around guys! Keep going strong! Rock on! xD

Its kinda sad people have to get off subject to troll and put down other people. enjoy the music and leave a review not a troll comment. All it shows is your lack of maturity. No one can write proper 100% of the time. No one has the same view on a subject. Its called a opinion don't judge someone for theirs.

First off, your post itself shows your "lack of maturity" for it is not a review and benefits almost no one, seeing as trolling still occurs (and might I say quite happily towards posts like yours). Second, is trolling not a subject? Is it not something that one can have an opinion about? You know, last time I checked, it was, so your opinion of not judging others for their opinions is itself a contradiction, as trolling is the opinion you are judging multitudes of internet users by. Stop trying to suppress trollers, for you are becoming that which you hate most.

lyzz123, you have improperly used the word your. Your is a possessive pronoun meaning belonging to. I think you really meant you're which is a contraction meaning you are. The syntax of your second sentence is all wrong. Syntax means placement of words in a sentence. Further, the beginning word in any sentence should be capitalized and so should the word God. Now you really have something to have a duck fit about. I'm quite certain your extremely limited vocabulary will cause you to use profanity in regard to my comments.

really? | Reviewer: lyzz123 | 11/6/11

are you guys serious? your really arguing over the web? all of you should just stop its pathetic. and anonymous if u say anything about my spelling, i swear to god i will kick your ass if i meet you. and polski just ignore him hes an ass. but if your really gonna argue over the web your PATHETIC.this is for REVIEWS not your childish bickering games. its for real music lovers and for other music lovers to connect over a song. so all the haters and spellcheckers FUCK OFF!!! -lyzz

"Chances blown, nothing's free
Longing for what used to be"
The meaning of this is that when the kids were young "the future was so bright" but as they grew older they screwed up their lives and it looks a lot worse. And they're "longing for" the optimism of the old days. This is in reply to a commentor from 2007 :L

"Spelling over morality? | Reviewer: Polski | 2/13/11

To the annonymous one:
I bet you spell-checked your entry to avoid getting any shit from it. English is proper noun and you're entry lacks a few punctuation marks. If you wanted to correct people for their grammar and not for their points of view, get a fucking English degree and quit resorting to discussion forums. "

You forgot an A in there....

wait...what? | Reviewer: callmebob | 2/20/11

How did things get away from the music? Drop the pissing contest, it's childish and ignorant to say the least.

The song is about the life effect - being, how life just happens, and sometimes bad shit happens. It's about how, life begins and dreams of children often turn out to be nightmares in the end, caused by bad choices. Drugs or not, alcohol or not - a person can still make the choice. Calm down, maybe take a prosac or two, set back and enjoy the music. FUCK! Life's too short to waste over petty bullshit...

Let's be civil, shall we? | Reviewer: Jace | 2/18/11

Polski, chill out. The guy brought up a valid point, namely that discussion forums and comments generally exhibit fairly poor use of the English language. But your double response was a little over the top. Rudi should probably take five before writing too. Anonymous, pointing out that somebody messed up their grammar and spelling could be done a little more politely, and does it need to be pointed out at all? Us folks might as well be the kids that aren't alright, if you ask me. We could have a civilized discussion over a deeper meaning to a song without going for one another's throats, couldn't we? Let's talk about the song, for Christ's sakes. I personally think it's about the darker side of modern life, and all the people who fall through the cracks. It's fast and fun to listen to, as well.

"Peace" to you as well. Looks like you have not gotten over your jealous insecurities for those that actually have a more profound intelligence over more than just spelling...which is probably due to your past addiction and whatever else you may blame it on. Get over yourself and actually listen to what they are saying. Don't be biased over their spelling, grammar, etc. Gaining knowledge from the information at present is always viable as long as you can allow yourself to get past all the prejudices that you obviously have towards people that are less educated. If opposed, then you're just as ignorant as you assume that they are.

great song | Reviewer: <3theoffspring | 1/9/11

This song is so true. Theres such a lack of motivation and confidence in kids that they don’t think that their life is going to be worth crap. Then they destroy it even more in these ways that they think is an escape or just a temporary way of having fun. This may not apply to everyone but still :P
Its so sad tho its like generations of just broken kids, broken families, broken neighborhoods. No ones there to be an inspiration, so no one knows what to follow or what to do anymore.

None of you can spell. I mean it's really not that hard I can and I was a heroin addict. Come on guys it's embarrassing. Before you start trying to thrash out heavy moral issues, see if you can master the english language. Peace.
