The Importance Of Being Idle Lyrics

Performed by Oasis
Review The Song (30)

I sold my soul for the second time
'Cause the man don't pay me
I begged my landlord for some more time,
He said "Son, the bills are waiting"

My best friend called me the other night,
He said "Man, are you crazy?"
My girlfriend told me to get a life,
She said "Boy, you lazy"

But I don't mind
As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine, if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit,
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it, he-heah

I don't mind
As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine, give me a minute, a man's got a limit,
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it, he-heah

I lost my faith in the summer time
'Cause it don't stop raining
The sky all day is as black as night
But I'm not complaining

I begged my doctor for one more line,
He says "Son, words fail me"
It ain't no place to be killing time,
I guess I'm just lazy

I don't mind
As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine, give me a minute, a man's got a limit,
I can't get a life if my heart's not in it, he-heah

Meaning what? | Reviewer: Stian | 2/24/11

I Agree with thefastforward. The world and all it's expectations can put a lot of strain on a human being, so much that it can alter you mentality( as described by the lyrics) so sometimes you just have to say fuck it (this is represented in the lyrics by: I don't mind) and take a break to recharge your batteries.(in the lyrics; As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine, if you give me a minute, a man's got a limit)
I can go on but I think you get the point!
Great song! Like so many of their songs. If you like this one check out master plan( one of the most slept on songs of the 90's

It's all about the song title | Reviewer: CallumE123 | 2/21/11

I agree with Thefastforwards,
it's simply about how important it is to occasionally just be idle, and let things pass, simply chill through it. You can tell by the way the music sounds, and the band themselves. They're so chill!

I dont know about all that | Reviewer: Aminata Dieng | 1/22/10

Does it always have to be a deep hidden meaning in all lyrics. Why cant it never be what it looks like. The man i depressed and he has just given up on life and he cant manage to do all this normal thing that are expected of him, that comes with living a life. Cause he just don't feel it.
By the way It doesn't say the land don't pay me. In the lyrics, it says The man he don't pay me. Who ever the man is, haha, I don't know. Good maybe

life is hard, if it easy it will means nothing at all | Reviewer: jantash | 1/19/10

No shits it easy as we speak, just dont give a damn about the shit happinng throw and eventaully we will make something good.
at the end as long as we are commeted toward our self to be better than our life used to be We will made something new.

AWESOME | Reviewer: Eimzz Bbzz | 10/14/08

I love love LOVE Oasis and this song is ACE!!! i love it when Noel Gallagher sings, his voice is softer than Liam's but i still like Liam's voice like.
Also i LOVE stop cryin your heart out
my favourite song ever!!!
=D xD

We like it also in Italy..! | Reviewer: giammarco | 7/9/08

It's not so easy understandig the real deep meaning of this song.. anyway the music is great, the rythm is fantastic, the lyrics are wanderful and the videoclip is original too..! It' s the best song performed by oasis, after "stop cryin' your heart out" which is my favourite one..

Amazing... | Reviewer: Yin | 1/26/08

My best friend actually gave this to me saying, "Oh my god, this is our song! It's so us!" I listened to it and fell in LOVE. Not only is it partly because I love British rock as a genre, but this song is the epitome of lethargy, and puts me at ease, especially considering the 'protagonist' is so carefree about his laziness, when usually I'd feel guilty.

Interesting | Reviewer: M&M | 1/23/08

It's rather interesting having different opinions about what this osng really means to say. I think that this 'proves' in a sort of way that this is a GREAT song. I would rather go for the suicidal type 'can't get a life when me heart's not in it' than the 'philosopher'whiten above (11-30-2007). Also, silence can express agressivity. ...

Best Oasis Song, my opinion | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/24/08

Hey, i really like that song! I dont like much oasis but this song had such a cath effect on me! I guess the melodys are so great n also the way he sings! About the lyrics, i think he says " cause the Land, dont pay me " thats why he says after " I beg my Landlord for some more time..." hes saying like we´re still in the medieval times where we should work just to pay the tax that the owner of the land that we live n work demands us to pay, hes right in a way.
