The Great Depression Lyrics

Review The Song (1)Print the Lyrics
We are the sons and daughters of a revolution, revolutionaries walking us out of
oppression and into a
no-low promise land.

And this is leaves us with a great sense of sadness dwelling inside our soul. no
one can explain where
its' coming from or where its taking us.

We just know that something is lost, but somehow we are lost, lost

Review about The Great Depression

The Great Depression | Reviewer: Dave Esposito | 2/26/2006

Blindside is back with a new and refreshing style. There is a significant difference between this album and About a Burning Fire, Which isn’t a bad thing whatsoever. I think this album was an improvement, not because of the style change, but because of its over-the-top passion, energy, and creativity. This album is absolutely amazing.

This album starts off with a dark intro in which Christian recites a couple lines about feeling lost and depressed that basically sum up the album. Then the intro fades into the techno-fueled, “This is a Heart Attack,” which is followed by the mellow yet powerful, “Ask Me Now.” "We’re All Going to Die,” is an also very powerful song about how people all over the world are dying at young ages for one reason or another. Christian’s vocals in this song are very touching and focus you in to the lyrics in a very emotional way. The song was partially inspired by a boy Christian met named Yamkela, which is the name of the next song on the album. “They never trained me for reality I’m a reality-TV clone” screams Christian in the track “Yamkela.” This song talks about the reality of what is happening in South Africa, and with the boy, Yamkela. This is probably the heaviest song on the album along with "We Are to Follow," and contains some of the most intense lyrics known to Blindside. Next, “Put Back the Stars”, in my opinion the most depressing song on the album, yet finds a way to show a bit of hope. This song deals with the struggle to find yourself and how depressing it is to be lost.

The next half of the album continues with the release “Fell in Love with the Game.” This song is probably the catchiest song on the CD, but talks about the struggle to remember who you are, and how easy it is to get wrapped up in business instead of music itself. “City Lights” shows off Christian’s vocal range and heads in a different direction as far as lyrics go. “We Are to Follow” is a great addition to Blindside’s heavier songs, with its roaring guitar riffs and head throbbing screams. This is another great song to help Blindside get their message out about our society, and how it’s easy to get wrapped up in things such as media. “You Must Be Bleeding Under Your Eyelids,” another original song title that might make you curious of what to expect. It turns out this song is simply about the need to try to fit into a certain mold. The song “My Alibi,” is a great rhythmic ballad about hope, relationships, and God. The next song is almost a screaming battle between Christian and the former vocalist of the band Self Minded. They scream about, as Christian stated, “….the desire to make someone proud of you.” “This Time,” one of Blindside’s most mellow songs, talks about another man in South Africa named Sipho, who Christian visited. The last and most dramatic song on the album is “When I Remember,” a beautiful song about hope and not being forgotten ends the album perfectly.

The music on this album is pretty much equal in quality to Blindside’s last two albums. There was definitely a different sound, not necessarily an improvement but is a solid addition to Blindside’s previous musical efforts. Lyrically this album is also a bit different, it’s more personal and there is more to think about after listening to them. The lyrics are probably the best since A Thought Crushed My Mind. Christian's singing has reached a new level of range but in all, sounds just as good as his vocals on the last two albums. The thing i love about is they don't just make a couple great songs and the rest 'fillers.' Every song is great on this album.

In conclusion, this album is just about perfect. The Great Depression describes many of the problems in society and shows how depressing life can be at times. The album also focuses a great deal on hope, "A light at the end of the tunel." The album grows on me more and more every time I listen to it. It’s an amazing experience and shows Blindside’s musical diversity and true abilities.
