With The Good Life’s Black Out, Tim Kasher set out to
capture something entirely different from his earlier
efforts with Cursive as well as the debut release from The
Good Life, Novena on a Nocturn (Better Looking Records –
2000). With upbeat, keyboard driven pop songs intermixed
between sparse, vocal driven stories of drunken
disappointment, The Good Life’s Black Out is a conceptually
and musically rich album by five musicians that have
blossomed from a solo effort into a full-time band.
After the success of Novena on a Nocturn, Kasher along with
keyboardist Jiha Lee, drummer Roger Lewis, guitarist Landon
Hedges and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Fox endeavored to
create and arrange something larger in scope and density.
The result is the moody, ever changing sound More...

Night and Day REWRITE by The Good Life | Reviewer: Threnody
------ About the song Night and Day performed by The Good Life
I know a girl with cuts on her legs. I think that she hates the way she was made, but we never spoke of why they were there, I just squeezed them and kissed them ‘til we both felt a bit better.
And now I’ve returned to the town where she dwells; that small lonely cabin her grandfather built, I suppose that’s where she’s imprisoned herself, to write all those words she’s too scared to tell – those sad, short stories of a girl curled up in her shell.
Night and day she tends to the bar. She pours the drinks, they pour out their hearts. All that sorrow and alcohol weighs hard on her thoughts, so she writes them down….she loves them all.
And when we’d make love she’d stare in my eyes…. I swore we had met a thousand times. Thousands of lives, thousands of nights…. She’d written of it a thousand lines.
Night and day she tends to her bar. She pours me a drink for my parched heart. All my sorrow’s in alcohol… she holds up the cup to my cracked lips for a kiss.

I have listened to this song for years, but since recently going through this situation, i identify with tim kasher. he is such a lyrical genius...and he's obviously been hurt like this. you can hear it in his voice. you always want that last night with the person even though you know that the end has already arrived. man, i love this guy

------ About the song Inmates performed by The Good Life
this song is amazing, that much goes without saying.
i know this is nitpicking and completely a tiny detail but where the lyric says
"Oh, you'd take anything"
she actually sings
"YEAH, you'd take anything"
--
this is a masterpiece of a song, well written and evokes emotion from ANYONE who's experienced pain from a relationship

This song puts definition to EXACTLY how I feel. My boyfriend right now needs to hear this song. I'm sick of being the second best. He'll always be in love with her. blah blah blah. He needs to grow some balls and get over her. Guys are so stupid.

You do all realize that he is being completely sarcastic when he says every single word in the song right?

------ About the song Album of the Year performed by The Good Life
Tim Kasher is a genious. He cleverly changes a famous phrase by changing it slighly to perfectly fit in his story/song.For Example "Laugh until it didn't hurt" instead of "Laugh until it hurts" which means that they laugh until it didn't hurt to think about it. Stuff like that is genious and I could start a Tim Kasher Major for collages.

The first time I heard this song I absolutely fell in love with it. This guy is so sincere in his singing; I love that you can truly follow the song with him while the emotions change. You can't help but have bittersweet memories of past relationships and cherish what you have now. This is by far one of the best songs I've ever heard. It inspired me to check out other bands on the label and Cursive and Dredg are awesome too!

Yeah, this song is great. The entire album is great. It's one story throughout like older artists once did. I saw these guys in Austin and they sounded amazing live as well! I love "just a guitar and a voice" type of music, and the story line is adaptable to just about anyone who has been through any type of relationship.

This song is one of the best on the album. It is even better live, especially since Tim doesn't change anything and sings it from a woman's perspective.

This is dope song. One can relate in many ways to this song...it varies from person to person. "And I know she loved me once, I swear to god she, its the she bite my lower lip and press her hips against my hips.." I can relate..I think. For the most part, just a GREAT song.
