The Frog Prince Lyrics - Keane

Review The Song (8)

An old fairytale told me
The simple heart will be prized again
A toad will be our king
And ugly ogres our heroes

Then you'll shake
Your fist at the sky
"Oh why did I rely
On fashions and small fry?"

All promises broken
Feed your people or lose your throne
And forfeit your whole kingdom
I'd sooner lose it than still live in it alone

You were our golden child
But the gentle and the mild
Inherit the earth, while

Your prince's crown
sponsored links
Cracks and falls down
Your castle hollow and cold
You've wandered so far
From the person you are
Let go brother, let go
Cos now we all know

Soon, someone will put a spell on you
Perfume, treasure, sorcery, every trick they know
You will lie in a deep sleep
That's when

Your prince's crown
Cracks and falls down
Your castle hollow and cold
You've wandered so far
From the person you are
Let go brother, let go
Cos now we all know

Nothing to do with Bible Prophecies | Reviewer: Chris M. | 7/6/09

Erm, no Russ, it doesn't have anything to do with Christianity or Bible Prophecies. The song is about Johnny Borrell, lead singer of Razorlight. Tim said something about it in an interview. He said the guy was incredibly talented yet ruined it all by becoming a snotty pot-mouthed "rock star" who insults every band (including Keane).

As far as I know, these lyrics have to do with a member of another band who had the same kind of origin Keane had, but fame blinded him as he became a selfish peron. This guy was a Tim Rice-Oxley's friend, and because of that he wrote this song.
What's cool about Keane's songs is the variety of interpretations it may have!

This song was pretty catchy at first, but then it lost its touch a little bit, it became more like a mundane story. But, anyway I think Keane was referring to world leaders, how ordinary people will bring them selves to leaders one day. How some leaders become tryants/evil (someone will cast a spell on you), this could be because of a number of reasons. And like all leaders, the bad ones are much more likely to fall.

The old fairytale is how the world refers to Christianity. The Bible prophecies say the meek and pure of heart will inherit the earth, and those the world admire today, proud and materialistic, will lose their crown. Why did I rely on fashions and small fry, is a reference to ignoring the Christian beauty and vision and frittering life away on shallow things.

Christian prophecy says all the perfume and seduction of consumerism will make us forget what life it really about, and put us in a spiritual deep sleep.

Perfume, treasure, sorcery, every trick they know
You will lie in a deep sleep
That's when

Your prince's crown
Cracks and falls down
Your castle hollow and cold
You've wandered so far
From the person you are

The Person you are... | Reviewer: Jonathan | 3/13/08

Im just wondering who this person is that has wandered so far from him/herself? Who is this song directed at and after they fell into a deep sleep, did they awake and decide to change their ways and become true to themself!!!

I think this is Keane's best song.
Beautifully sung; a song you will never get tired of hearing.
