Queen The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke Lyrics

Last updated: 09/06/2014 07:44:03 PM

Words and music by Freddie Mercury

He's a fairy feller
Ah ah the fairy folk have gathered
Round the new moon's shine
To see the feller crack a nut
At night's noon time
To swing his axe he swears
As he climbs he dares
To deliver the master stroke

Ploughman wagoner will' and types
Politician with senatorial pipe
He's a dilly dally oh
Pedagogue squinting wears a frown
And a satyr peers under lady's gown
He's a dirty fellow
What a dirty laddie-oh

Tatterdemalion and the junketer
There's a thief and a dragonfly trumpeter
He's my hero ah
Fairy dandy tickling the fancy
Of his lady friend
The nymph in yellow (can we see the master stroke)
What a quaere fellow

Ah ah ah ah ah ah
Ah ah ah ah ah ah
Soldier sailor tinker tailor ploughboy
Waiting to hear the sound
And the arch magician presides
He is the leader

Oberon and Titania watched by a harridan
Mab is the queen and there's a good apothecary man
Come to say hello
Fairy dandy tickling the fancy
Of his lady friend
The nymph in yellow
What a quaere fellow
The ostler stares with hands on his knees
Come on mister feller
Crack it open if you please

Unbelievably amazing! | Reviewer: Shirabetty | 9/7/14

I've been a huge fan of Queen for 37years but this song would be the second-best for me! Freddie describes the dark side of the painting picking out each fairy with his amazing expression! I'm still addicted to his voice! The sound structure is actually, amazingly complicated, which makes this song ultimately unique and fascinating! Yet this song never sounds complicated, that means, Freddie is just genius! Thanks Freddie!

Amazing | Reviewer: Jenny | 10/21/13

If it was possible to pic a fav song out of the hundreds of masterpieces QUEEN did then this. Would have to be in the running I'm 12 and I don't care for modern music only QUEEN will do
I have loved every QUEEN song I have heard and I cry every time I hear love of my life
Thank you boys

Concept album | Reviewer: Phil | 2/16/13

This track was written about a painting by Richard Dadd who, like many artists was a tortured genius. In fact he killed his father.

This is from Queen 2 which was a concept album. The original LP record was divided into side White and side black. To my mind this and Night at the opera are the two albums which sum up the early and best years of the Queen phenomenon.

Good Save the Queen

awesome | Reviewer: dev | 1/8/12

I love queen so much and its sad that people my age (10) can't love this music and I'm glad I listen to this music then that pop crap (my brother (5) and I did something that problumly haven't happen since like in the 90's; we had an aglrument about listing to queen or AD-DC) and freddie's a GOD

Quite artsy | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/6/11

This is a very artful and magical (if that's the right word) song to have listened to, and it, along with Queen II in general, seems to have been overlooked by the mainstream. Personally, I think many of today's artists could learn a thing or two from these four very talented young men.
This song was actually named after a painting that Freddie dragged his bandmates to see often, and let me tell you...this song describes it PERFECTLY. It combines the perfect mix of magical Old English with a bit of an old rock-dance taste.
That's just my opinion...either ways, Queen Rocks!

Not random! | Reviewer: sandy | 8/31/11

I`ve loved Queen ever since I was five years old, I am now 24 and I still worship them.
I think it`s great that you guys, being so young listen to this kind of music.
Let me tell you, nothing is random in their music. It might seem like it is, but all of their songs are so carefully and immaculately written, we just can`t tell.
Freddie was a true born artist, there was enough fantasy inside of him to make him able to write song like this.
Do not ever, not for one second underestimate this genius!
Having said that...I AM PROUD OF YOU GUYS!!!

Agree | Reviewer: Anonymouse | 6/8/11

Well Done | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/21/11

I love how Queen made this song. It is well done and under-reated. I am only 16 years old but I know that music does not get any better than sQueen. The lyrics are random, but for soe reason it works. That is just the magic of my darling Queen.

amazing! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/19/09

Only freddie mercury could come up with a song this spectacular :)
Also, what i find amazing is that he got his inspiration from a painting... you just can't find good songwriters/singers like him + queen these days :/
I'm a young queen fan by the way (14 year old girl)
