My mother also sang this song to me while we were picking blueberries in to woods behind our house. She also sang a verse at the end about the conducter going with the boy to his house and finding a wreath on the door which ment his mother had died and the conducter took the boy with him. I dont know if anyone else remembers this part.

I am now 38 years old, I remember my Daddy singing this song to me as a little girl. I can't believe I never knew the "ACTUAL" lyrics and how as a 16 year old falling asleep at my boyfriends house and having this exact experience totally slipped my mind until now!! My name is Rhonda....I always heard and still hear to this day "Help Me Rhonda" by the Beach Boys when someone first hears my name!! Wisdom with age baby!! haha

I can't believe I found this song. My grandmother used to sing this to me as she would rock me or when I was feeling bad. All I could remember was the "Please Mr. Conductor, don't put me off this train." I remember that it was about a little boy trying to get home to his dying mother and that there was a little girl that wanted to help him.
As My Grandmother(Granny)lie in her bed at the end she was humming this tune. I started humming it with her and brushing her hair as she had done for me so many times.
THIS was a wonderful song that just brought back so many GREAT memories. THANKS for keeping the old music alive.

I accidently found this song, and I couldnt believe it, My mother used to sing this song to me when I was just a little girl. It took me a minute or two to figure out how I knew the words, but then it hit me MOM! What wonderful memories came flooding back. Awesome :)
