The Dirt Whispered Lyrics - Rise Against
Review The Song (6)
She got down on hands and knees,
One ear against the ground,
Holding her breath to hear something,
But the dirt made not a sound tonight
Echoes of songs still lurk on distant foreign shores,
Where we danced just to please the gods that only ask for more,
And so it goes
But still we give ourselves to this
We can't spend our lives waiting to live
On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But daylight
Isn't what she wants
The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Through the cracks I slip
The postcard says wish you were here
When rather I was there,
Holding on to the simple things before they disappear,
That's what I meant
But that was then, and this is now
I'll make it up to you somehow
On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But daylight
Isn't what she wants
The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Through the cracks I slip
A destination, a fading smile.
Another station, another mile.
Another day gone, I swore that I will.
Be there before dawn.
So be there, I will.
She got down on hands and knees,
One ear against the ground,
Holding her breath to hear something,
Anything at all
The dirt whispered, "Child, I'm coming home"
On cold nights
In a prayer for dawn
But daylight
Isn't what she wants
The concrete
Calls my name again
I'm falling
Through the cracks I slip
One ear against the ground,
Holding her breath to hear something,
But the dirt made not a sound tonight
Echoes of songs still lurk on distant foreign shores,
Where we danced just to please the gods that only ask for more,
And so it goes
But still we give ourselves to this
We can't spend our lives waiting to live

This is a great song, I always feel great after listening to it.
Also, guys, you have to stop with the 'this album is better' thing. All of their albums get a ten, so why would any one be better than any other. Personal preferance is ok, I don't mind it. But the whole ' no you're wrong about that' thing is childish, I think we should know better. Rise against has plenty songs about equality of humans, so let's all just get along and listen to R. A., ok?
Sorry about that whole rant. It just kinda bugs me that people who listen to Rise against would think or act like that. Sorry again, great song, I'm out.
Responding to the two that think sufferer and the witness is the best album | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/7/11
Ok anyone saying that the sufferer and the witness is their best are incorrect, you say that only cause its their second main stream album which is the equivalent to saying Decemberunderground is the bast AFI album, but sufferer and the witness is still a good album
Anyways back to the song, great song i love the way Tim sings this song so overall a great songs
Appeal to Reason | Reviewer: Kieran Hill | 5/10/11
Best songs on that album, are this, collapse, savior, Entertainment... But the best is easily hero of war. It just shows that this band can pull of any type of song, rock, rap(art of losing etc), and soft.

I agree this song gets 10 out of 10 stars. I love each and every song on ATR but it's not their best. Jeremy I agree with you Sufferer and the Witness by far the best and SSFCC is good to...ALl of their old stuff is awesome..Best band ever!

This song is simply amazing. And I love Rise Against but this cd is not their best. The sufferer and the witness IS BY FAR their best cd. The songs on that cd 1-13 are so meaningful and inspirational.

it's a great song, another classic from a great alternative band. Gald to see they are standing true to their beliefs. easily a 10 out of 10. As i would rate almost every other song they have made. Appeal to reason is easily one of their very best albums they have made.
