The Con Lyrics - Tegan & Sara

Review The Song (11)

I listened in
Yes I'm guilty of this
You should know this
I broke down and wrote you back
Before you had a chance to
Forget forgotten
I am moving past this giving notice
I have to go
Yes I know the feeling,
Know you're leaving
Calm down, I'm calling you to say
I'm capsized, staring on the edge of safe
Calm down, I'm calling back to say
I'm home now
I'm coming around, I'm coming around
Nobody likes to but I really like to cry
Nobody likes me
Maybe if I cry
Spelled out your name and lists the reasons
Faint of heart
Don't call me back
I imagine you when I was distant
Not insistent
I followed suit and laid out on my back imagine that
A million hours left to think of you
And think of that
Calm down, I'm calling you to say
I'm capsized, staring on the edge of safe
Calm down, I'm calling back to say
I'm home now
I'm coming around, I'm coming around
Nobody likes to but I really like to cry
Nobody likes me
Maybe if I cry
Encircle me, I need to be, taken down
Encircle me, I need to be, taken down
Encircle me, I need to be, taken down
Nobody likes to
But I really like to cry
Nobody likes me
Maybe if I cry
Nobody [x9]
Encircle me, I need to be, taken down

Breakup | Reviewer: 'Smee :) | 2/11/13

Tegan says in an in-between songs talk at a concert that this was the "love song" that resulted after a breakup of a 5-year relationship. and the "I followed suit and laid out on my back imagine that A million hours left to think of you And think of that" is when she goes to a therapist, as shown in the music video. and then Sara comes and rescues her.

maybe im taking a perception too literal to the lyrics, but to me it seems as though she became emotionally/mentally unstable after a relationship and had to be institutionalized. this would explain the writing of letters (or in general) to pass the time, and also going to a probably mandatory therapist, toward whom she is skeptical but shes not enitirely closed off to the idea, and for once doing as she is told. when she is finally discharged, she calls that person only to let them know that shes home and getting herself together, which is most likely not true. additionally, when a person misbehaves, they may need to be encircled by people to hold them down and give them a needle.

*yes i may have done this out of boredom..

I <3 tegan and sara!!! theyre AMAZIIIIING~!

I have recently dicovered these two amazing people. They inspire many thats for sure. The fact that there so strong is amazing it cannont be easy being girls in the rock industry expecially if you are a lesbian. i have worked with many aspiring singers and these two are by far truly amazing, The Con is such a touching song and speaks to all differant types of people on very differant levels and to each there own story. I hope we hear alot more from these two beautiful girls :)

How is this Possible? | Reviewer: Ashlee Jane | 8/6/10

How could I have survived the first 16 years of my life if i had never heard of Tegan and sara? I am obsessed. This song is fantastic. It seems as though she is talking about learning something she doesnt want to know, and then telling the person on the phone that she isnt calling to tell the person that she knows what happened, but to just tell her that she is fine and there is no reason to panic. She wants to cry from the news.

Oh man, I love this song! The lyrics are brilliant, the harmony is stunning, and the melody is super catchy! {Fates forbid, I think I just sounded like a pop princess.. -shudder-} Anyway, I have only recently discovered this dynamic duo, and have fallen head-over-heels for Teagan and Sara. =]

Nobody likes Me | Reviewer: Lydia | 9/18/07

my brother has been listening to these two for ages and I only recently started to, and it makes me wish I started listening to them ages ago because this song is brilliant and so too is all the other songs on their "The Con" album
"That's Gold"

wow | Reviewer: cory greenwood | 8/13/07

impressive.
the production elements are obvious with Walla's (Death Cab For Cutie) style.
another great song from these two.
: )

Drew me in | Reviewer: Farrah | 7/23/07

I've only recently discovered these two, but I can honestly say that I'm too impressed to even doubt that I won't like the rest of their work. This song is moving. :]

Brilliant! | Reviewer: Sarah | 7/3/07

Great Album, Great Song. I agree with each new album they keep out doing themselves and continue to grow progressively more mature sounding. Tegan and Sara Rock.

amazing song | Reviewer: delanie | 6/16/07

Their voices are simply amazing together and even seperately. I look up to the both of them in many ways. Their songs are stronge and lyrics are always so beautiful.

The Con | Reviewer: Andrea | 6/10/07

every time these kids release a new album the manage to somehow out do themselves.
this time it is no different.

their lyrics have a personal feeling, and when they release these songs it feels like we can see a small part of them/their lives, particularly Tegan. They stay original and true to themselves, and still manage to develop THEIR sound. that must be applauded.

it'll get stuck in your head for weeks.
fan-freakin-tastic!

great work Sara and Tegan Q. :)
