The lineup of The Blue Nile is: Paul Buchanen (songwriter/vocal/guitar/synth) Robert Bell (synth) Paul Joseph Moore (piano/synth) The trio released their outstanding first album, Walking on Rooftops in 1984 to wide critical acclaim and went into the studio in 1985 to begin their followup release. Relentless perfectionists, they constantly scrapped versions of the record, feeling unable to match their early success. Their second release Hats was not released until 1989 and eclipsed the acclaim of their first album. It has in fact remained the quintessential The Blue Nile classic. Then, thanks to good riends, I went to see them in concert, May 2006. I have never heard anything like it...this band are incredible. For those not in the know (I've spent ages researching them since) they typically release an album every 5 or 6 years. They are an enigma. The driver is Paul Buchanan, the writer, composer and singer and lead guitarist. If you EVER have the chance to see them, do so. You'll thank me :) I thought I'd seen great concerts and great bands, but this blew me away !
