The Beginning is the End is the Beginning Lyrics
Artist(Band):Smashing Pumpkins
Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate
Is it bright where you are
And Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in its pain
Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace
Is it bright where you are
And Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in its pain
Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again
Is it bright where you are
And Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in its hate
Strange
Strange
Strange
(strange)
(strange)

Review about The Beginning is the End is the Beginning
one of my favourit songs | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/23/09
firstly, this song was made in '97. i found a demo version of it called batman 2, as well as well as a demo of the end is the beginning is the end, called batman 1. i'd say this means they were both written for batman, and only one was used. and i also think both songs are about all superheroes, the beginning is the end is the beginning first verse is about how they are not accepted (the sewars belch me out,the heavens spit me out) and the song here is about what heroes think of themselves.
Watchmen or Batman | Reviewer: Ash | 3/9/09
For batman or watchmen, the lyrics suit both, and indeed most superhero mythologies.
Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate
Most superheroes have a dark pain from their past, ultimately leading to them taking a separate persona, to distance them from that pain. To fill a void that cries through them.
They see in their pain a lost and blown world, where they stand alone, without hate, becoming more than flesh and blood of mortal men.
Superman's homeworld destroyed, so he saves ours.
Batman saw his parents murdered, so he fights criminals.
even the Xmen, segregated and unaccepted by society, band together, fighting evil to prove the world needs them.
And that ultimately (in my opinion) is the meaning of these lyrics. An introspective & melancholy sentiment to the superhero mythology.
And its just an awesome song!
We can watch the world devoured in it's... | Reviewer: Mike | 3/6/09
Ok, so I've listened to it about 10 times now, and I'm almost positive that the last line says "we can watch the world devoured in it's hate" instead of pain. in the other chorus sections, he does say "pain", but if you listen closely, in the last chorus he says "hate". I think that subtle difference makes the song that much more powerful.

The End is the Beginning is the End and The Beginning is the End is Beginning are two different songs. They were released as singles in '97 and are on the same cd. Both were written for the Batman movie.
correction someone's incorrect "clarification" | Reviewer: Mike | 2/27/09
This song was originally written and attached to the batman and robin soundtrack, but not featured in the movie, in 1997. The song "The End is the Beginning is the End" is the song featured in the batman movie. That said, it's impossible for these lyrics to have been written for "Watchmen" specificaly, but it does fit the trailor nicely. This song didn't win any awards, but the song from the actual batman movie did (1998 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.)
Clarification Part 2 | Reviewer: Laura | 3/3/09
To Anon: The lyrics were NOT rewritten for Watchmen. This version (the more melancholic version) also appears on the Batman and Robin soundtrack in 1997. Other than being used for the trailer, any versions of this song (3 in total) are NOT affiliated with Watchmen.
Clarification | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/24/09
Actually, the song written in the '90s and used for Batman was "The End Is the Beginning Is the End" and has completely different lyrics than this version except for the chorus. My understanding is that these lyrics, under the revised title "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning," WERE written specifically for "Watchmen."
Great song | Reviewer: Paul | 2/21/09
I just wanted to clarify something. This song was from 1995, and won a grammy back then, it wasn't written specifically for Watchmen. That being said, I do enjoy the song, and think it fits the mood of Watchmen. It's eerie, beautiful, and sublime. Helps me relax while watching my back at the same time.
The lyrics are a poetic summary of the Watchmen | Reviewer: Delay | 2/16/09
I think it's a mistake to read any one line of the song alone. Since this version was written for Watchmen specificly, it seems to be about the exalted, strange but ultimately fictional identity of superhero icons. It discusses the same themes as Moore's graphic novel -- hollow grace and facades covering up the same decadence that makes up the rest of the world. The ending's implied escape from it all seems to fit with Nite Owl and the young Silk Specter, who manage to build whole and healthy identities of their own, thereby breaking free from the decadent lie that is the Watchmen.
The chorus - I think that's a hypothetical observer addressing the godlike figures that the Watchmen present themselves as. "Is it bright where you are, have the people changed, does it make you happy you're so strange" - this bit seems to be asking if they actually believe in their own righteousness, does what they do have any real effect (do they change people, or as people), do they feel superior being set apart from the rest of humanity. The last lines of the chorus undermine the benevolence of heroes, and summarise the central theme of Moore's book - the destruction cause by entitled heroes
