The Beacon Lyrics - A Fine Frenzy

Review The Song (6)

You say your time has come
You're tired of waking up
Don't be obscene, I can't conceive of
Living without you

You say you drag me down
No one should want you now

I start to cry, you kiss my eyes and say
I'm not allowed to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat, or see its light
That single solitary guide, it must get lonely there sometimes

You were a child forgot
Lessons of love untaught
Now no embrace can quite replace
The one that never found you

I was raised tenderly

All that was taught to me
I will apply, your parents tried but they didn't know how to

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat, or see its light
That single solitary guide, it must get lonely there sometimes

Let me stand by you
The honor is mine
Let me stand by you
Loneliest light, loneliest light, loneliest light

Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat, or see its light
That single solitary guide, it must get lonely there sometimes

You're all right... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/3/11

The song is written for someone who is depressed, considering ending their life. It is written by someone who sees this person as a source of light, a beacon who doesn't realize his own importance in her life.

"you say your time has come,
you're tired of waking up,
don't be obscene, I can't conceive of
living without you"

She can't live without him because he is her beacon. She's recognizing the fact that perhaps he cannot understand his own role in brightening her life.

At the end, she asks to stand by him, to support him.

I feel that you are all right. The person the speaker is singing to is depressed which is why the song is saying "you're tired of waking up" It means that he does not want to move on with life. At the part where is says "You say you drag me down No one should want you now
I start to cry," Its saying the person feels that he/she is keeping the one he loves from reaching their full power and how it'd be better if he left. And when it says "you kiss my eyes and say I'm not allowed to" it means that they don't feel that they are worth the tears that the person is crying for them. The person was never loved as a child so being with her scares him and sense he doesn't know how to give love, so he feels he doesn't deserve it. The speaker is in love with the person they are singing to and wants them to keep living and know what love is. "I was raised tenderly All that was taught to me I will apply, your parents tried but they didn't know how to" This is saying she will take the way she learned to love and teach him to because he needs it and so he is not afraid anymore.

It *is* about depression. I think the person she is singing about is lonely and ready to give up on life. Maybe because of a lot of pressure that is put on them. Beacons are a source of light, and they kinda have to do the job on their own, often unnoticed and without thanks. (obviously, you aren't gunna "thank" a beacon for giving you light.. but you get the idea! they go without recognition!) :)

I think it is about depression too but I think the chorus means something different.
I think she is saying he has something to offer he has worth and that worth is the love they have but he is so lost in the depression he can't see his own worth so she is trying to point it out to him

i'm fairly certain that i know what this is about. this is about depression. she loves him and she tries to make him happy, but she can't. he wasn't taught how to love, or how to receive love. he can't pull himself out of his depression and he doesn't want to drag her down into it with him. he wants to commit suicide, but she doesn't want him to. she tries to convince him not to, because she loves him. the chorus
"Burning beacon in the night
Can't feel its heat, or see its light
That single solitary guide, it must get lonely there sometimes"
is saying that there is a light for him to find. he doesn't have to suffer in the darkness of his depression. the only problem is that he can't find the light. he knows it's there, but he can't see it or feel it there. he doesn't know how to reach it.
she says "let me stand by you" because she wants to help him fight through it.

I think this song is about someone who is in love with someone who is sick and dying. They do not want to move on but the person is telling them to, but they know that their significant other's light is not out yet even though they can not feel the heat or see it glowing. They know from what their parents taught them that they cannot give up on the one they love so even though they know the person is getting weak and does not want to wake up anymore or see them cry they will forever stand by their significant other. Because when you love someone you always love them.
