It was pretty big news in music when, in 1983, IRS
announced it had signed the original (and reformed) classic
rock band The Animals.
The Animals were part of the U.K. blues scene of the early
60s and one of the most noteworthy bands of the British
Invasion. Originally known as the Alan Price Combo, they
formed in early 1962 in Newcastle-upon- Tyne, England, the
group changed its name to The Animals when Burdon joined
later in 1962. The group's inspiration and much of its
early repertoire came from American blues and R&B. Eric
Burdon's gruff voice made him a natural blues singer. And
while other "blues-based" bands of the British Invasion
went "pop" (most notably The Rolling Stones), The Animals
"stayed the course" and continued playing the blues, yet

------ About the song Don’t Bring Me Down performed by The Animals
A perfect example of how the American R&B music scene of the 1950's and 60's influenced the British. The Animals sold it back to the white boomers here in the US. In my opinion, they smoked The Rolling Stones who were basically a blues band doing american R&B covers. The Animals were very soulful especially on this tune.

------ About the song Story of Bo Diddley performed by The Animals
Bo Diddley and Johnny Otis confronted Eric Burdon of the Animals at the Whiskey in Hollywood because the above song uses lyrics they wrote without due legal credit or consideration.
Eric Burden: Man, music is life.
Bo and Johnny: Man, music is business!

------ About the song Monterey performed by The Animals
Where and how old were you June 1967? I was 18 in L.A. I got a contact experience through this perfect song, stoked when it came on the radio. Wally, it's about the picture not the poetry, the energy not the meter, the breakthrough, not the train wreck. Though I did not attend I made up by visiting the central coast for decades before eventually moving to MONTEREY (and I'm not dreaming).

------ About the song House of the Rising Sun performed by The Animals
This is one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. I don't care who wrote because the Animals play it so bloody well. I want this song to be played at my funeral. Also, this song would be great to listen to during a zombie attack. I do not know why but it would be, I think. By the way, Left 4 Dead 2 is set in New Orleans,so yeah. Just thought I'd say that. Maybe I'm an idiot.

------ About artist/band The Animals
This site has a great resource of lyrics. I love The Animals and saw a great informative comment about the song A Girl Named Sandoz. Reviews from people who know these things about songs could post more to make this site have a better range of use all around, but for listening I use Pandora(pandora.com), which also has a great deal of cool side notes about artists and their songs, no lyrics tho. Check out Pandora, it made a great station that plays sixties garage rock bands all the time like The Zakary Thaks and introduced me to great bands like Plastic Penny and Ten Years After, as well as playing great classics from The Who, Floyd, ELP, Hendrix, Zeppelin, etc... it uses some database to figure out songs you might like and it gets really good at guessing as you rate songs that come up.

------ About the song Sky Pilot performed by The Animals
When I first heard Skypilot at age 18, I was moved by the depth of feelings in it. Each time I hear it, many years later, my feelings for what military combat chaplains must go through become more intense. I can hear the sounds of the soldiers checking their gear, smell the sweat and later the dirt and blood they are wearing. This is true work of art.

------ About the song House of the Rising Sun performed by The Animals
i like the way the song starts strongly with the slow side to side feeling, the guitar so grispy, and then comes the singers voice, sound like drovned to jack&daniels sound of man like the songs one... organs are awesome and no one can never forget this classic..

------ About the song Monterey performed by The Animals
Monterey, one of the great freedom rock songs, extols the virtues of a wondrous period of time and the music that was such an integral part of it. If you weren't there, you should work to understand it. Peace.

------ About the song Monterey performed by The Animals
Everyone knows about Woodstock. Relativly few have herd of the Monterey Pop Festival that took place two years earlier, in the summer of love. Yes, 1967. Learn about this event in just 2 minutes! When Eric Burdon wrote this, it was a pretty good song. Today, it sounds dated. Cliche' if you will. But that's the beauty of it. A trip down memory lane for over the hill hippies. Especially those who live on the west coast!

------ About the song Monterey performed by The Animals
You are right; the lyrics in this song are not the best. But this song is so energetic and fun in capturing the essence of the Monterey Pop Festival where some of the best bands played. Any band and any song played and/or written for this festival is amazing.

------ About the song Monterey performed by The Animals
Anyone by the name of 'Wally' should not be allowed to review any song.
What parent would humiliate a child with such a name?
Wally Cox must have had too many psychedelics in the 1960's since the song does not start off with "in the beginning"
Wally never heard of alliterative verse, a metrical pattern involving varied numbers of syllables but a fixed number of strong stresses in each line of a verse.

------ About the song When I Was Young performed by The Animals
'When I Was Young' from The Animals Blast From The Past Album.
2nd verse
Instead of 'I had quite a ball' my cd plays 'I learned quite a lot'. It is possible it it 'I loved...' but repeated listening has me thinking it is 'I learned...'
3rd verse
after 'Yeah' I hear 'when I was young I had understanding, much more love, feel like feeling, yeah, when I was young,
when I was young.'
5th verse
Same changes as the 3rd verse
6th verse
Starts 'My life was so much...' rather than ''My faith was'

Where House of the Rising Sun came from | Reviewer: Cosmic
------ About the song House of the Rising Sun performed by The Animals
Actually, the house of The Rising Sun was a brothel in New Orleans back in the late 1800's. Also, the original lyrics were written by Georgia Turner and Bert Martin, and first recorded back in the 1920's. The original lyrics are about a girl "working" in the brothel.
Eric's love song to LSD | Reviewer: Anonymous
------ About the song A Girl Named Sandoz performed by The Animals
Sandoz was the pharmaceutical company that manufactured LSD before it became illegal in the United States. In this song, Eric Burdon simply relates his feelings about the drug at the time of his first experiences with it -"my mind has wings". Obviously, he was quite taken with his experience and wanted to share that with his audience.
