Televators Lyrics

Review The Song (18)Print the Lyrics
Just as he hit
The ground
They lowered a tow that
Stuck in his neck to the gills
Fragments of sobriquets
riddle me this
three half eaten corneas
who hit the aureole
Stalk the ground
Stalk the ground
You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Only this manupod
Crescent in shape has escaped
The house half the way
Fell empty with teeth
That split both his lips
Mark these words
One day this chalk outline will circle this city
Was he robbed of the asphalt that cushioned his face
A room colored charlatan
Hid in a safe
Stalk the ground
Stalk the ground
You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Only this manupod
Crescent in shape has escaped

Pull the pins
Save your grace
Mark these words
On his grave
[x3]

You should have seen
The curse that flew right by you
Page of concrete
Sting walks crutch in hobbled sway
Auto-da-fé
A capillary hint of red
Everyone knows the last toes are
Always the coldest to go

Do research before you say something.

This song and the entire album is based on Julio Venegas, who was the lead singer's friend who actually jumped to his death. He was in a coma after a failed attempt to kill himself with rat poison. He saw amazing things in his coma that he couldn't ever see in real life. So he jumped.

I read the book about it, it's really abstract and it's amazingly poetic.

annyone know what the book is called???

Crescent in shape | Reviewer: David | 3/3/09

This song and the story behind it and the album have got me hooked on The Mars Volta. This song is pure, haunting, and very well written. Shame it took such a tragic even to inspire such a great song.

Once again | Reviewer: Mike | 2/2/09

The whole CD is based upon the life and death of a former friend of the band Julio Venegas. The character Cerpin Taxt is based almost entirely on him. Julio jumped from and overpass into traffic in El Paso in '96 after awakening from a coma he self-induced by injecting himself with rat-poison. This song in particular focuses on his jump.
It's been stated a million times on a million websites. Anyways it's a great album and a great song. Go buy it if you don't have it.

no this song was based on cerpin taxt who over dosed on morphine and rat poison this made him go into a week long coma; in his coma he is put through a series of trials by the tremulants, creatures from his own mind that inspire his art. After waking up he decides that hes fit only for the dream world so he jumps to his death

but the singers friend also had something similar to this

best lyricist ever | Reviewer: mason | 1/10/08

hes amazing... almost everyhing is metaphorical. the story is amazing and i dont even completely understand. i know that its partially based on their friend who actually died of a heroin overdose. de-loused is based on the coma and his dreams. basically... in fact televaters is one of his dreams and his attempted suicide. mostly his failed attempt. but i just love the entire album. the lyrics are just astounding

televators | Reviewer: manny | 12/31/07

julio venegas went into a coma after overdosing on morphine, i think. anyways this song is amazing, you can feel the emotions of cedric and omar in this song.

Is Omar musically illiterate? | Reviewer: avarice | 11/21/07

Omar Rodriguez and Cedric Bixler both seem to verbally aim their lyrics toward 1300's-1700's literature and speech (at least judging by this song), which makes it seem sort of insane, because it doesn't make much sense, that is, unless you read literature of the past...or you have a friend in the dictionary.
So...to the question 'Is omar musically illiterate?'..Nope.
