Take Me Out Lyrics - Franz Ferdinand

Review The Song (46)

Take Me Out Lyrics

So if you're lonely
You know I'm here waiting for you
I'm just a cross-hair
I'm just a shot away from you
And if you leave here
You leave me broken
shattered, I lie
I'm just a cross-hair
I'm just a shot,then we can die
I know I won't be leaving here
With you

I say don't you know
You say you don't know
I say... take me out

I say you don't show
sponsored links
Don't move, time is slow
I say... take me out

I say you don't know
You say you don't know
I say... take me out

If I move, this could die
If eyes move this can die
I want you... to take me out

I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
With you

I say, don't you know
You say you don't know
I say... take me out

If I wait this could die
If I wane this could die
I want you to take me out

If I move, this could die
If eyes move this can die
Come on... Take me out

I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
(With you)
I know I won't be leaving here
With you

I was lucky enough to see them live recently. Before they played this song, they explained the meaning behind it.

The band itself is named after the Austrian aristocrat who was assassinated. This ultimately lead to the outbreak of World War One. Archduke Ferdinand and his wife were driving when they were attacked; they were both shot at the same time more or less. The song details the moments between his wife being shot and his ultimate death. In his mind, he might as well be dead. That who he loves has been taken away from him, hence the phrase, "Come on, take me out." The murder of his wife leads to much internal conflict; what is the point in living when you cannot share the best of times with loved ones? The murder of Ferdinand's wife leave him "broken." He definitively concedes to the terrible outcome that has been placed upon him; "shattered I lie."

OMG calm down | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/18/10

Omg people, calm dooooown!!! YES , video for the song is full of crosshairs and bullseyes and guitarist has an robotic eye in one part, also is full of metaphors( a guy with a pen against a guy with sword), BUT is also full of female legs, lots of mechanical "things" SOOOO it could mean many things! But there were no snipers at assasination of Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo...he was shot from pistol...Anyway: snipers, guy hitting girl, suit yourself!

"Chuck Norris" - the reviewer - is a douche | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/7/10

Chuckie's parents should probably put a stronger internet filter on his computer to prevent him from polluting the internet.
He states that to think this song is about snipers is (paraphrasing) "stupid", as only a punk band would make a song about snipers. He then cites the Dead Kennedys' "Nazi Punks Fuck Off" as an example of why. Obviously he has never listened to the song beyond the "shocking" title, as the song discussed a proliferation of people into the punk rock/hardcore scene who simply jumped upon a fashion bandwagon without understanding some of socio-political ideals that fueled early 80's American punk/hardcore.
Now "Take Me Out" is about whatever you want it to be about!

i think this song is about a person who wants to go out with another, but doesn't have the coorage to ask the other one out.. so hes waiting for an invitation! (:
Even if that's not the subject, its such a nice song. . the voice and the music are.. like, awesome.

who knows | Reviewer: tori | 10/22/09

So this song is incredible!! i'm not exactly sure if it's about assassination, a guy hitting on a girl he knows he can't get, or a creative combo of both but you people need to get your facts straight on the real franz ferdinand. The archduke's death was an assassination and he was killed when he was in a car but the person who killed him attempted to earier that day and failed so later, when they saw the archduke, he succeeded in killing him. And yes, it sparked ww1. i can't help but believe they may be hinting at that, especially because of the band's name but maybe the song is not entirely about that. I guess the only way of knowing would be to hear it straight from the horses mouth. in the meantime, great song!!

Please do not be angry if that is their interpretation. That is what they saw. You saw saw something else. You people try to say "I'm right" yet interpretations are neither right nor wrong. So please no fighting.

About the song, yeah cool not that fast not too slow. I do not know about the assassinations but I could see that it's one of the meanings of the song. If you guys want to know its true meaning ask the band itself(which looks like it's impossible).

Interesting | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/24/09

You know honestly, I could see the song being two snipers taunting one another... if they were playing Halo. And though a comical thought that he would be singing about that, it's not plausible.

The song seems to be about a guy hitting on a girl knowing he's going to get shot down. But, eh whatever it's a fun song have fun with interpretation.

Um, excuse me? | Reviewer: Sara | 8/15/09

Not all songs are about chicks and sex, though the majority of songs are. If this song is secretly hinting at an assassination, then it is.

Is it really that hard to believe that songs can't secretly be talking about snipers? Rude punks on here. Like chuck norris and Buster.

ok to the retards :l | Reviewer: chuck norris | 7/25/09

ok look you people who think its about a assassination :l are completly retarded... most music is about chicks or relations or something that happens in the regular persons life... only punk bands would make a song about something like a fucking shoot off against two snipers... like the dead kennedys, they made a song basically where the only lyrics were nazi punks fuck off, and the dead milk men made one called taking retards to the zoo and bitchin camaro, which were hilarious songs and were complete punk, but franz ferdinand is a rock pop band so they automattically make songs about the regular life, yeah the band is named after that austrian guy but theres no way in hell that this song is about snipers or a assassination or any fucking shit that you dumb asses think, its most definately about the dude trying to ask out a chick and the chick is playing hard to get with him or is either not wanting to go out with him and since the band is franz ferdinand they are gonna use references to the assassination of the austrian :l like what most bands do in songs they reference there songs to there band name, like the new pornographers, they always will use they band name in some of there songs. tard muffins :O

Conspiracy Theory | Reviewer: Jamar | 5/3/09

Ok listen to Finger Eleven's "Paralyzer" and Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" and the Ting Ting's "Shut up and let me go" and last listen to Stevie Wonder's "Superstition". These songs all sound the same! Does anyone have any others? I know somebody who loves this sound and I want to surprise them...I'll check back! ^__^
