Don't let the deadpan vocals or innocent gaze fool you,
Jeremy Hellger wrote in the New York Review of Records
[December 1992/January 1993], in introducing his assessment
of 99.9 F, the singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega's latest
album. "Suzanne Vega is a contained maelstrom looking for a
place to uncork." Widely regarded as one of the most
brilliant songwriters of her generation, Vega emerged as a
leading figure of the folk- music revival of the early
1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she
sang what have been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk
songs of he More...

------ About the song Tom's Diner performed by Suzanne Vega
To "Laurel": this song is called "Tom's Diner" because in Manhattan, New York there is a diner called Tom's Diner and she's sitting in the diner and telling her story (which is this song). Tom's Diner is also shown in the show Seinfeld (not sure if you watch it).
And if you can, visit Tom's Diner in New York. It's nothing special, but it's okay.
Anyway, I adore this song. <3

I love this song. I could never find out what it was called. They would play it on the radio all he time but never say the name. I just knew it was the one that sounded like the "I dream of Jeanie" Theme. I'm glad i finally got the name of it!

------ About the song In Liverpool performed by Suzanne Vega
The first time that I heard this song,I wanted to know who was singing.
The voice was haunting, and the lyrics mesmerizing, which makes for a good combination.
A lovely,meloncoly song.
I would definately plug into it and purchase it.

------ About artist/band Suzanne Vega
I love all of Suzanne Vega's albums except I don't yet have the newest one which I intend to get soon...Both her first album and Solitude Standing were revelations for me...I was in a deep depression during that time (I was 20-21) and going through intensive therapy...Suzanne was like a close friend to me that I could listen to and be with whenever I had a chance...her music is truly beautiful and her lyrics transcendent...favorite song of mine: hard to choose, but if I had to: Language, from Solitude Standing. Second to that is the title track of the same album...if you haven't heard her yet...check her out!! If you like Joni Mitchell...check her out!!! --Carol
P.S. there are some errors by way of the first lines of almost all of the song lyrics as listed here are missing...please someone fix this!

Tell me about the role of metaphor in this song. What effect do these
metaphors on the singer's description of the man she is describing? What
does the singer expect will become of their relationship?
Answer to Question..... | Reviewer: Kamal
------ About the song Tom's Diner performed by Suzanne Vega
Vega wrote the song based on a comment by her friend Brian Rose, a photographer, who mentioned that in his work, he sometimes felt as if "he saw his whole life through a pane of glass, and [...] like he was the witness to a lot of things, but was never really involved in them." She attempted to think and write in this fashion (including a male perspective [1]) while sitting at Tom's Restaurant, a diner on the corner of Broadway and 112th Street in New York City, which would later become famous as a location for some exterior scenes in the popular television sitcom Seinfeld. (The building belongs to Columbia University and houses some of its programs, as well as NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.) .....
well this is what i found in Wikipedia ... i gotta see the video now
