Surfin' USA Lyrics
Performed by Beach BoysReview The Song (2)
If everybody had an ocean
Across the U. S. A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like Californi-a
You'd seem 'em wearing their baggies
Huarache sandals too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U. S. A.
You'd catch 'em surfin' at Del Mar
Ventura County line
Santa Cruz and Trestle
Australia's Narrabeen
All over Manhattan
And down Doheny Way
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S.A.
We'll all be planning that route
We're gonna take real soon
We're waxing down our surfboards
We can't wait for June
We'll all be gone for the summer
We're on surfari to stay
Tell the teacher we're surfin'
Surfin' U. S. A.
Haggerties and Swamies
Pacific Palisades
San Onofre and Sunset
Redondo Beach L. A.
All over La Jolla
At Wa'imea Bay.
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S. A.
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S. A.
Everybody's gone surfin'
Surfin' U.S. A.

Surfin' little 16 | Reviewer: Charles Roeder | 3/25/12
I wish that the younger generation would listen to this song, and Chuck Berry's Sweet little 16.
I suppose there are many people who think Brian Wilson was a bum, because he ripped off Chuck Berry's work, But I would vote not guilty.
What we have here is a great idea for a song, and rather than trying to come up with a new melody on his own, he used what has gotta be the best melody for this song. The melody had already been used, but Wilson did not let that stop him from completing a masterpiece.
Again, a baby boomer took a good song from an older generation guy's record from the 50s, and made it into an anthem for the 1960s
Why can't today's kids do that? Every new song I have heard since 1987, has been a half assed attempt by some stupid kid to create something original, at which he failed.

From the moment Carl Wilson rips off those explosive beginning high notes on his reverberating 12 string guitar, you know you're in for a sweet ride with this ode to the joys of surfing. The message? Wouldn't it be nice if everyone in the USA had an ocean so they could spend their summers surfing. Ahh -- innocence.
The song is often described as "Chuck Berryesque", but in fact the song- writing credits for the song on the album "Surfin' USA" list ONLY Chuck Berry. If you've heard Berry's "Sweet Little 16", you know why.
Effective drumming from Dennis Wilson, great Freshmen-influenced harmonies, this is an excellent song I don't know if I've ever listened to without singing along. A masterpiece from the Great American Songbook.
