Such great heights Lyrics - Iron & Wine

Review The Song (23)

I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes
Are mirror images and when we kiss
They're perfectly aligned

And I have to speculate
That God himself did make us
Into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay

And true it may seem like a stretch
But it's thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death

When you are out there on the road
For several weeks of shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
Come down now, they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
Come down now but we'll stay

I've tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat
It sounded thin upon listening

And that frankly will not fly
You'll hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home

They will see us waving from such great heights
Come down now, they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
Come down now but we'll stay

Both songs are great. The postal service version makes it seem like it talks more about young love with its fast and upbeat tempo, and this version with its slow and melancholy sounding beat makes it seem like its talking about a more mature love. Both are great, and amazing feelings just like both songs are great to listen to.

Importance of Writers | Reviewer: Corey | 2/4/11

The importance of who wrote it is a matter of credit and respect. It does matter who writes the lyrics that someone sings, and it also matters who sings it. The words and meaning of a song are put there by the writer and they deserve the recognition. A singer puts their spirit and talent into the words giving either a new interpretation of the original words or enhancing them, so they also deserve such credit and recognition.

To say that it doesn't matter belittles the song and disrespects both the singer and/or the writer.

It's definitely a sign that the freckles in our eyes are mirror images, | Reviewer: Ritza | 11/3/10

This is one of my favorites by Sam and "our song."
The Postal Service did an awesome job at this song, but, as others said, Iron&Wine really brought out the meaning to it. Amazing song. I found Iron&Wine through my sister and I'm very glad she showed it to me.

Better | Reviewer: A | 7/27/10

So, I love Iron and Wine and yeh, the postal service(which i also like) did a good job at this song. But Iron and Wine made it so much cuter and I almost cried when I heard this song by Iron and Wine.

my review | Reviewer: katie | 3/9/10

This version sounds a lot more respectable and give the words a more deep serious feel. Who care's if a song sounds more "hip" it's suppose to be meaningful. And Iron and Wine bring out more of a deepening side to the words.

great:) | Reviewer: Lei808 | 11/29/09

i really like this song. i first heard it in the movie australia when the cook was playing the ukulele and singing the tone. thats my favorite movie so i looked it up and now i play it over and over again!! and i think this song was originally by iron and wine and postal service made their own version i like this one better:)

Does it realy matter who wrote the song? Its an amazing song either way the only reason ive ever heard this song was because i was staring into my loves eyes when it started playing and ever since it been one of our songs and i like this version better. But whats the point in who wrote it and sang it its only a song not the bible

im pretty sure most people know that this song is originally by The Postal Service. i personally liked both of them, the original one was more upbeat of course but the iron and wine cover made it sound more romantic and mellow.
i really liked both th original and the cover and really like both bands. :D

For the record. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/4/09

Okay have any of you done your research. The song waspo was respectivly written by two of the postal service members. It is quote "the first positive love song they ever wrote."

The iron and wine cover was realsed along with the originalin 2003.

Their website and wiki.

Jesus idiots.
And in my opinion the postal service verison is the better. Its upbeat like it should be, and I personally find its more romantic.

HONESTLY... | Reviewer: SERENA , | 9/2/08

Iron and Wine covered this song from The Postal Service darlings...get over it honestly. If you listen to the lyrics..."I tried my best to leave this song on your machine, but the persistent beat it sounded thin upon listening..." the Iron and Wine version is too slow for that and the Postal Service version actually has a persistent beat. Iron and Wine's version is romantic...but Ben, who is an amazing writer fuck you very much people, wrote this song. Thank you and goodnight.
