Peaked at # 73 in 1962
This is a vocal cover of the instrumental by Mr. Acker Bilk's #1 two months earlier.
Andy Williams also covered it at the same time to # 38.
It was used as the title tune of a British TV show.
Here I stand, watching the tide go out
So all alone and blue
Just dreaming dreams of you
I watched your ship as it sailed out to sea
Taking all my dreams
And taking all of me
The sighing of the waves
The wailing of the wind
The tears in my eyes burn
Pleading, "My love, return"
Why, oh, why must I go on like this?
Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore?
The sighing of the waves
The wailing of the wind
The tears in my eyes burn
Pleading, "My love, return"
Why, oh, why must I go on like this?
Shall I just be a lonely stranger on the shore?

Review about Stranger On The Shore Stranger On the Shore | Reviewer: R Glen BROWN | 9/9/2007
This song originally the theme tune for a U.K. Children's Hour serialized TV drama titled, "Stranger On The Shore". The tale of a young French girl come to England and and live with a host British family.
Slim Whitman also recorded a vocal version. Slim's rendition and unique voice captures the homesickness sentimentality portrayed by the young French girl. Each time I listen to Slim's lyrical version, my memory is refreshed. Recalling that when I was a child I watched every weekly episode of "Stranger On The Shore".
