Stop the Dams Lyrics

Review The Song (12)Print the Lyrics
When you're smoking tin-foil in the morning
It's gonna be a cold day
When you're keeping everything inside you
It can only hurt you

Unrelated sounds
The sun will shine again
You hold it in your hands

This land is a young land let it stay that way
It's pollution only turns it to
Something you don't wanna see ever grow up
The reflection of the bad you receive

And you are all messed up
And the sun won't shine again
So maybe you're in love
With aluminium

The cling and a clang
It's the metal in my head when I walk
I hear a sort of - this tinging noise
Cling clang, the cling clang
So many things happen while walking

The metal in my head kind of clinks as I walk
Freaks my balance out
So the natural thought
It's just clogged up total clogged up
And I need to unplug these dams and make the natural flow

It sort of freaks me out,
We need to unplug the dams,
You cannot stop the natural flow of thought,
With a cling and a clang.

Wake me up again until
We're aluminium
You hold it in your hand
The sun will shine again
The sun will shine again
The sun will shine again
The sun will shine again

(repeat and fade)

The references to "smoking tin foil" and being "in love with aluminum" really sounds like an ode to smoking pills. The line "Freaks my balance out" sounds like a classic symptom of free-basing pills: loosing your coordination. The line that says, "The metal in my head kind of clinks as I walk" in my opinion, refers to a myth that smoking tin foil leaves small traces of the aluminum in your body.

Dev, I'm pretty sure the song has nothing to do with global warming.

To me, it sounds like a Theremin or, possibly even just a metallophone.. Just a thought, really.

Great Song | Reviewer: Johnnie | 2/7/09

I read the lyrics more of a way to say how we are unable to think freely. How we sometimes have others thoughts impacted upon ourselves unable to think of a free world and having to stop paranoia basically.

Something closely resembling that anyways, it is a beautiful song. It kind of reminds me of The universal by Blur.

I think it's speech with very heavy flanging effect. Propably excerpts from the 'poem' at the end heaviy warped by flange.

Wow | Reviewer: Dev | 1/8/08

You know, it really speaks to modern dilemmas, like global warming, all the kind of crap we're doing to our environment. Plus, what better way to enhance the lyrics than to put it to such a great tune. I got a guitar 4 Xmas, plus D-sides, and, once I get good enough, this is going to be one of the first songs i learn. =]

Brilliant, touchin' song! | Reviewer: Amy | 12/31/07
