Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom's not a burden
Anyone should bear.
Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
but I would not want
You any other way.
Cause,
It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said,
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.
Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.
I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we'll be
Well upon our way.
Blend and balance
Pain and comfort
Deep within you
Till you will not want me any other way.
But,
It's not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said,
I don't want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I'm alive.
Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it's something you'll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.
Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?
How can this mean anything to me
If I really don't feel anything at all?
I'll keep digging till
I feel something.
Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand.

..i cant hold back from layghing at these douchebags who dont like Tool 'cause they dont get the exact meaning of the lyrics..dudes,its all up to what you think it represents:thats what music is all about, the images in our heads..no? I dont necessarily want to know what Maynard or any other composer felt..its what the music does to me..thats what counts. Tool is the shyt!!
Coming from heavy drug addiction, I can say with confidence that this song is probably about drug use. Listen to the words and really think. Every line in this song can be looked upon as drugs taking control. It's not about anal fisting. Aenema was an album based on the tragedies of our world.
A little lesson about music | Reviewer: misery | 11/16/09
Tool has a steady, and complex beat that takes a great amount of talent to master. And to anonymous on 11/1/09...A song that is open to interpretation is a song that everyone can relate to. Music is not about set standards, its about feeling and pulling away from standards. You people are dumb fucks.
Some creepy emotions | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/15/09
Did anyone mention that this song could be about LOVE?
Could be about something like a masochistic relationship-masochistic emotions-not about sex.
Some girl/guy that loves someone, feels bad and wishes his feelings to change but in the end realizes that he'll always be in love.

all you morons that think tool sucks and that we need to stop listening to this "patheic crap" can fuck off because you probably listen to blink 182 or some other horse-shit band. if you dont realize how brilliant tool is musically and lyrically then YOU have issues and should probably stop listening to music alltogether. maynard wasnt raped and in fact this song doesnt even sound like a song about rape and prison sex is about how stupid it is to rape your own kids so that doesnt imply that he was raped either. go jack off to breaking benjamin or some shit and we will listen to real music.
i don't like tool but i like a perfect circle. i'm pretty sure tool saids a decent message but i can't enjoy finding out what they're trying to say without good beats over them. the music in tool doesn't inspire me like apc does. only song i like in tool is stinkfist. even though it's gross but i can relate to never having enough of what i want in life. (and no i'm not talking about sex..)
please make me feel wanted | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/9/09
I think this song about wanting the other person to be more desireable. Have you ever loved someone but there are just so many little things that dont match up but you want so badly for them to just get it? I think this fits that perfectly. The finger, knuckle, elbow, and shoulder deep references simply refer to wanting to get a hold of that persons passion and try to find it but the further he/she reaches to find it, the farther they get past their own will to try anymore. This song has now become my new favorite tool song because of this meaning that I have concocted for it. Personally, every line makes perfect sense and I feel a lot more in tune with Maynard..
tool's lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/1/09
I could never get into tool's music and i know exactly why. You must create your own meaning to the songs. I feel with music, actually anything, meaning should be somewhat clear and not have 40 interpretations. I feel like I am reading a Nostra dumb-ass quatrain. These words are so "brilliantly abstract" that they have minimized their value to the point where they can be applied to almost anything. In other words I think it's ridiculous when a band has written lyrics so cryptic that no one knows what they mean and then tries to decipher the meaning to tell others who have no idea what it means.

Tim Schepers is exactly correct. This is a song about over stimulation in any sense and becoming numbed to it so that you need more and more to feel something... anything. It is very much a social commentary on our society and the unhealthy practices that we have come to incorporate in our lives to feel satisfied.
Finger deep within the borderline, knuckle deep? Turn around and take my hand? This may hurt but you'll get used to it? After this you won't want me any other way? I guess I can't see this song being anything but about fisting. Reread with this mindset and tell me you don't see it.
