Steadier Footing Lyrics

Review The Song (5)Print the Lyrics
It's gotten late and now I want to be alone.
All of our friends were here, they all have gone home.
And here I sit on the front porch
watching the drunks stumble forth into the night.
"You gave me a heart attack, I did not see you there.
I thought you had dissappeared so early away from here."
and this is the chance I never got
to make a move, but we just talk about
the people we've met in the last five years
and will we remember them in ten more.
I let you bum a smoke, you quit this winter past.
I've tried twice before but like this, it just would not last

It's beautifully written, and it's hard not to leave it on repeat.

Although it's a very short song, it gives it a unified feeling of "shortness" and wanting more, just how the artist states.

It's a fine line between regretting, and hoping for another chance, but you learn to accept it, and just contemplate it as part of a memory.

Not a big suprise from death cab's lyrcist; Ben Gibbard.
The man is a legend, and he isn't even dead yet.
He takes simple moments, or ideas, and turns them into full blown realms.

i think the fact that it is so short is what makes this song worth listening to. when you listen to it by yourself, or with a group of people, and the song ends.. it leaves you in a feeling that most songs don't.. you're not ready to hear what's next.. you're not ready to hear anyone talk..

you just want to think about what you just heard and how you can relate to it..

i know i can relate to sitting on a porch after a party smoking a cigarette with a girl that wouldn't have normally stayed the whole night.. maybe i should have made a move.. but i enjoyed holding her in the cold and talking about how cool our friends were..

This song is really interesting. It seems like it ends too early but that seems like symbolism for the relationship he could have with that person that never happened. Though I would like to hear more, the symbolism seems critical to the artist

I think it is a great song but that it is waaaaaay to short. At the end it has potential to continue on into a whole full length song but it just cuts off... sad

my favotite death cab song in the whole world
