Stays in Mexico Lyrics
Performed by Toby KeithReview The Song (8)
His name was Steve,
Her name was Gina,
(spoken) You've never been here before have you?
They met at a bar called Cabo Wabo Cantina,
He was an men's suit salesman from South Dakota,
She was a first grade school teacher Pheonix Arizona,
(Spoken) No, My first time here
They started dancing and it got real hot,
Then it spilled over to the parking lot,
One more tequila they we're falling in love,
One more is never enough!
(Chorus)
Don't bite off more than you can chew,
There's things down here the devil himself wouldn't do,
Just remember when you let it all go,
What happens down in Mexico,
Stays in Mexico
He woke up in the morning and he made
a little telephone call,
To check on his wife and his kids back
at home in Sioux Falls,
(spoken) hey baby everything ok?
She hopped right in the shower with a heavy heavy mind,
(spoken) What am I doing?
He knew it was the first time Gina
had ever crossed that line,
They walked down to the beach and started drinking again,
Jumped into the ocean for a dirty swim,
One more margarita they we're falling in love,
One more is never enough!
Chorus
Don't bite off more than you can chew,
There's things down here the devil himself wouldn't do,
Just remember when you let it all go,
What happens down in Mexico,
Stays in Mexico
Oh Mexico
Waiting at the bar at the terminal gate,
She says 'Steve I gotta go, I'm going to miss my plane'
He said 'One more tequila before you climb on up,'
She said 'one more is never enough!'
Chorus
Don't bite off more than you can chew,
There's things down here the devil himself wouldn't do,
Just remember when you let it all go,
What happens down in Mexico,
Stays in Mexico
Stays in Mexico,
Stays in Mexico,
Oh Mexico

Hurtful ignorance on Toby Keith's part...and most of these commenters | Reviewer: REAL woman, REAL wife | 8/16/11
I also found these lyrics to be hurtful. My husband has traveled extensively with his job, and although I absolutely believe him to have always been faithful, I also know that there are lots of temptations out there. The hurtfulness of a spouse who is unfaithful is absolutely devastating. Making fun and light of such a serious, life altering 'fling' of infidelity shows ignorance and displays a complete lack of knowledge of the devotion felt in a truly committed relationship, particularly one that has produced children. There is nothing funny about these lyrics. This glamorizes the devastation caused by the moronic, selfish, childish, impulsive behavior that shatters the bond created by fidelity. And for WHAT? For a stranger who is drunk? Just because you think it is anonymous? These types of relationships rarely 'stay in Mexico', or Las Vegas, or wherever. If those of you who think this is funny ever find yourself in a real relationship and find out your spouse has cheated on you, you will see how real that pain is. And I don't wish it on you. It is devastating and extremely difficult to recover from.

Title should be "What happens in North Carolina stays in North Carolina." | Reviewer: T | 6/28/05
I had an affair with TK's friend. It was actually in North Carolina, although it didn't stay there! Your welcome for the inspiration.
Great Travel Tune | Reviewer: Robert | 6/3/05
I'm married, with children and actually live in Sioux Falls, SD. I've been to Sammy Hagar's Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, MX. It's ironic, been to Cabo five times over the last three years but have never seen an acutal parking lot at the Cantina. Sure, (a chained off, very small reserved parking area), used by Sammy (when he's there for his B-Day Bash and other VIPs). Love the song, great melody and funny.

I love the song. I think it's funny. I have a boyfriend that is extremely jealous and I plan on a trip this winter with my daughter. He has accused me many times of going to have an affair on him, so when I hear Toby Keith's song I laugh because it reminds me of my boyfriend. It doesnt matter where you are in the world you can have an affair, you dont have to go to Mexico to do it. In contridiction to the review made before mine, if Toby wanted to have an affair he wouldnt have to go to Mexico to do it. I'm sure his wife stands behind his songs no matter what the lyrics are.

Very disgusted, former fan | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/12/04
I was completely disgusted by the lyrics of this song, and very disappointed that Toby Keith would sing them. Apparently, he puts very little value on families, in order to stand and sing a song like this. I was a total fan of his before I heard this song. If I were his wife I would definitely have a problem with him portraying this as an ok thing by singing about a husband and father having a fling in Mexico. Not my picture of a good Husband or Father.
Thanks
