Stevie Wonder Stay Gold Lyrics

Last updated: 06/20/2014 06:02:22 PM

Seize upon that moment long ago
One breath away and there you will be
So young and carefree
Again you will see
That place in gold

Still away into that way back when
You thought that all would last forever
But like the weather
Nothing can ever...and be in time
Stay gold

But can it be
When we can see
So vividly
A memory
And yes you say
So must the day
Too, fade away
And leave a ray of sun
So gold

Life is but a twinkling of an eye
Yet filled with sorrow and compassion
though not imagined
All things that happen
Will age too old
Though gold

I love this song | Reviewer: Patti Foms | 6/21/14

I'm in my 50s and remember reading this book for English class, and seeing the movie later. But this song actually reminds me of the death of my father and is very special to me. In one breath he was gone. I thought he would live forever. But now he is somewhere where he is young again (gold) and carefree.

This book, this movie, this story.. will be with me forever. It's unfathomable how much it touched me. My family has lived in Tulsa since, well forever, and I live there now. Before, all me and my friends wanted to do was leave this town. Leave boring old pathetic Oklahoma for something better. A life of glamour and luxury in a big city, such as L.A. Or Hollywood, or New York-- someplace famous. But now, but NOW I treasure my little town with my whole heart. The message this story sends: I can feel it in this city every minute of every day now. Stay Gold. Those two words will always be engraved in me. You don't know how much more I love life now, thanks to S. E. Hinton. The Outsiders is truly the best thing.

I had to read the outsiders for English and the meaning is amazing. I now live with a meaning. Dally was my fav cause like him I didn't care about life. I was here only for the people around me. and this song is amazing too,the words, the beat, the everything. "Stay Gold"

The Outsiders always will be the book that changed my life forever. Before I read the book, my life was boring, and every day was the same, but since I've read the book, it has changed my perspective on life forever. I try new expiriences, I say hello to complete strangers, and I'm thankful all the time for the wonderful oppurtunity that I have been given to start my life over. The oppurtunity to actually live, instead of being just another face in the crowd.

S.E.Hinton, you brought me to life, and I will forever thank you.

I <3 The Outsiders!!! :) | Reviewer: Cam | 8/1/12

I read this book just last year and I saw the movie, which my mom bought for me. I love it so much! When I read the part where Johnny Cade passed, I fgelt my heart break because I had a bit of a crush on him. Even though I'm 13 now and still trying to figure out this whole "romance" thing. But, anyway, I love this song. Everytime I listen to it I can hear Johnny's last words, "S-stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold." I love him! He's partially the reason why I saw The Karate Kid (love that too). Sorry for the spoiler! RIP Johnny Cade and Dallas "Dally" Winston! :*(

I saw the outsiders over 20 years ago when I was a teenager with my boyfriend who is now my husband and from that day we just loved it and we tried so hard to get the song played by Steve wonder, "stay gold" but could never find it. Today I have the film on DVD and I now have the song and the lyrics. Even watching that film today still makes me cry. It is one of the best films I have ever watched and so sad . I have my own children now and I will have them watching this film and to let them see what fighting can do to people's lives.

I remember reading 'The Outsiders' when I was about 10 and crying my eyes out near the end. A year later, I read it again. I still cried. I'm fifteen now, and ever since that first time, I've read the book so much, the book has literally had to been thrown away from being worn so much that the front and back covers and a few of the pages had fallen out. I've watched the movie about 5 times, and then last year I had to read it for school. The teacher randomly picked kids to read aloud, and it upset me hearing them read with no emotion at all, even in the most intense parts.

After we finished the book, a group of friends and myself assigned names from it to each of us. I am proud to say that they elected me, hands down, as Kieth 'Two-Bit' Matthews. Not because I drink alot(which I don't drink at all) but because I was the jokester of the group, always cheering people up, but knew when to be serious, especially when my friends were hurt or in danger.

The memories connected to this book are irreplaceable. It drew all of us closer together, forming our own 'Gang' with all of us playing our own roles. It made us laugh, it made us cry, and most important, and made us appreciate life as we know it. We realized that you only live once. You don't get a second chance to make up for mistakes. We had one girl who was having suicidal thoughts. A few supportive friends and this book saved her life. I can't understand how so many people could read this book and not feel anything, just ignore EVERYTHING that it brings to the publics attention. It kills me knowing that there really ARE people like Dallas, Johnny, Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darryll, Two-Bit, and Steve out there, and that no one cares how they end up. The book 'The Outsiders' should be made mandatory to read country-wide. The message is that strong.

I just hope that people will realise how REAL this is. God Bless you, S.E. Hinton, and thank you for giving us the truth of mankind.

i read the book outsiders for school and then our teacher showed us the movie afterwards. The movie and book are both really amazing and just.... words can't explain! The Outsiders sends out a strong message to teenagers and it's a very touching story. STAY GOLD!!!!!

This song really hit home for me when I first saw the film the day of it's release. I was a real outsider then. I had very, very few friends, was considered a weirdo by those I did have and didn't fit into any group. I was a real loner and went to the movies every Friday night, usually alone and this one really stuck with me. I felt like many of the characters int eh film on both sides which was, I suppose the point Hinton was making when she wrote it. We are all the same despite our surface differences. In the one scene where that is made very clear, Diane Lane and C. Thomas Howell are watching a sunset and talking and he asks her if she can see the sunset from her part of town. She says yes and he says "we can too".

The way Coppola used the song in the film against those beautiful images of the sunsets over the opening credits along with the images of the cast. The song was just beautiful and it's a shame it took Wonder more than fifteen years to even record a version of it for release. The score for the film was gorgeous as well with the composer Carmine Coppola using much of Wonder's song as it's basis. There was a brief release of it that you can find on line if you look.

It's hard to believe that so much time has gone by since then. I'm middle aged and still alone with fewer sunrises ahead of me than sunsets behind. To all of you who must be so much younger than myself. Do what the song says and relish your youth. Stay Gold.

I experienced The Outsiders in highschool during a dark period in my life. The story enlightened me to the harsh reality of money's role in society. It opened my eyes, but unfortunately closed my heart. Balance=Family is key to Stay Gold philosophy. XO

I hope one day someone from American Idol would do this song! I learnt it when I was twelve more than 27 years ago and when I found the lyric today I could sing it word for word like it was yesterday.
Oh well, some memories never fade especially the good ones. I loved being that age in the 80's with our movie star boy crushes.

I hope my daughter now will have great teen age memories.
